My character Pietas had always been the villain, but I had it in my head to write his origin story. I knew he was well aquainted with storms, personal, psychic, physical, and spiritual. Turned out he wasn't so much a villain as an anti-hero. I learned a lot about negative character traits writing him.

When I wanted to create a dragon for his spirit animal, the dragon had something to do with storms as well.

Stormsinger is well named. He can summon storms by singing to the wind and sky. His color is a blue so pale it looks white at first. Tips of nose, paws and tail are turquoise. Stormsinger can create a literal blizzard and even freeze rivers. Before Pietas met Stormsinger he could create a physical chill in the air; since developing a bond with the animal, he can freeze people solid.

Pietas's sister, Dessy, has a dragon spirit animal as well. Hers is a red dragon called Fireshade and the dragon can create heat and fire. Dessy can generate heat as well, but not fire.

Pietas and his sister met the dragons on the planet Stachien in the Colonies of Man. They were there at the dragons' birth, and protected them during an attack and a storm, which resulted in their bond. That story is found in more detail in Ring of the Dragon.

For millennia, they fight side by side. Now one king faces a lonely quest.

As Light and Shadow, King Pietas and General Cyken share every battle, as well as a fierce and passionate love.

But, torn apart by the king's rage, Cyken ends their stormy relationship.

When General Cyken falls in love with another man, Pietas undertakes a perilous quest on the dangerous world of Felidae to prove he is the better choice for Cyken.

If he succeeds in his quest, it will either bring Cyken back, or drive him even closer to his new love.

Pietas must try, for he cannot walk into eternity alone.

He must have a shadow to balance his light...

I discovered this company while window shopping on Etsy, looking at all things dragon related. I fell in love with a little wooden box that had a dragon perched atop it. From there, a relationship developed.

In early 2021, we worked on a fabulous giveaway, a custom box featured in the book Ring of the Dragon (pictures below). I have never seen a better giveaway! This kind of swag is amazing. I'm excited to work on more projects with this great couple.

What's the difference between a chibi and a statue?

A statue is a (more or less) realistic image of a person or creature. A chibi is a stylized version, usually with a big head and eyes.

I love hanging out on Instagram. I rarely post, but I do like and follow (a lot!). I especially like artists, cosplayers, etc.

When I kept seeing adorable chibis, I decided to have a couple made of the dragons from the Bringer of Chaos series. If you've read the books, you know I've only hinted at the dragons so far. I promise, they're coming.

Aren't dragons fantasy? Well, what if these creatures were extinct on Earth, but not on other planets? And what if they could exist in an alternate dimension? Remember the Gates of Life? Let me just say, you'll see.

The dragons are from House Snow Dragon on Instagram and were shipped from the Ukraine. Well worth the money and the wait. I got to pick eye color, body and accent color and let her pick the pose.

Red is Fireshade (Dessy's dragon). White is Stormsinger (Pietas's dragon). Who knew you could get chibi dragons?

And then my pride and joy in front -- a custom chibi of Pietas. Look at his armor! FloratalesCreations copied the armor Nik Nitsvetov wore in his cosplay of Pietas last year. Right down to the shoes and the weapon. I know a soldier shouldn't be adorable, but... :) I absolutely love this guy. He and the dragons sit right beneath my monitor.

Nik is doing another Pietas cosplay on October 10th (time to be announced). Watching Nik perform is amazing. If you haven't seen him do this before, you owe it to yourself to come watch.
