Bound By War

The Harvest Young: Bound by War (The Next Generation Book 4)

A brief moment in time can change everything.

Laken Fihk has no idea his destiny waits for him on the Unity, a Tah'Narian starship.

But all it takes is one look at the incapacitated male, and Laken knows that's his fated mate.

Which is a problem, because the severely beaten, bloody, and unconscious male is the Blishue warrior named Torin. The species is considered sadistic, cruel, and without mercy—bloodthirsty monsters who kill without regard.

No one, absolutely no one, is going to be happy if Laken claims Torin as his.

Torin, member of the Blishue House of Dorntok, has found his mate and nothing will stop him from claiming Laken. So what if he has Tah'Narians doubting his honor, Ne Reynians wanting to kill him, and a battle brewing that could jeopardize all he holds dear? War has bound them together, and nothing can break them apart. He and Laken will overcome all obstacles to find a love that could last a lifetime. No matter what.

Destiny doesn't make mistakes.

6 Ways to review a book and 4 ways not to #BookReview #Read

I'm not the only author who adores reviews.

Honestly, they can be worth more than a sale.

Think of it this way: I make about thirty-five cents on every dollar of a book. True story. Obviously, that amount isn't going to make or break me financially. But if someone leaves a great review on a book, it might entice more readers to pick it up. Which means over time, those little bits add up.

Readers count on reviews to tell them whether a book is worth buying. I know I do. What about you?

As an indie author, every review I get helps my visibility, which means I can spend more time writing and less time marketing. If you want me to put out more books and sequels faster, giving me reviews is one way to make that happen.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of reviewers who don't do reviews correctly, or truly don't know how to write one.

I've given you some basic dos and don'ts below. Glance through them to make sure you are including some of the dos, and are not guilty of the don'ts.

The Do List

Do leave a line or two (or more, if you wish) about your experience with the book.

Do talk about how it made you feel. The emotional experience is the most important one you have while reading a book, and the same is true of other readers who might be looking for that type of experience.

Do let people know why you liked or didn't like the book, and why you will or won't read subsequent books in the series or by the same author.

Do share how it starts and what drew you into the story.

Do talk about the positive aspects of the story, the world, and the characters you met inside the story.

Do be direct and to the point.

The Don't List

Don't leave novella-length reviews. It's okay to gush about how much you loved a book, or use whatever words are necessary to warn readers about books they shouldn't waste their money on, but again, direct and to-the-point is best.

Don't give a strong opinion without a reason. "I hate this book" or "I love this book" but without saying why doesn't help other readers form an opinion. For example, if a book was too spicy for your taste, say so, because readers who prefer spicy books will be more likely to buy it.

Don't share spoilers that reveal secrets, or talk about how the book ends. Not cool!

Don't give super-intricate plot details Readers want quick and to-the-point reviews.

Now what?

You don't have to do all the dos, but this is a good starting point. Leaving a review helps support both authors and fellow readers.

Thank you in advance for taking time to share your opinion.

My story in Package Deal, a BBB Publishings anthology, is Hacking Planet Fun.

Kam, Master of the Thieves' Guild Academy on the planet Kelthia, deals with a school full of fledgling thieves, con artists, and hackers, and doesn't need attitude from students or faculty. When he rejects a half-feline half-human prodigy for unmanageable behavior, his ex, Brinn, fosters the girl himself.

Brinn handles the unruly child well, and Kam grudgingly agrees she shows great potential as a future thief. Missing Brinn, Kam seeks to win him back. But when the child comes under suspicion as having hacked Planet Fun, an empire-renowned anti-gravity theme park, Kam must decide whether to trust his well-honed instincts... or his long-divided heart.

A twist on academy stories, the male-male science fiction romance Hacking Planet Fun focuses on the staff, and introduces a classroom of tiny precocious thieves who will steal your heart.

---

In this scene, Brinn has picked up Dresden, his four-year-old foster daughter, and is bringing her home for the first time. With him is Hahlibeth, his co-teacher, a fellow master thief he has known since Hahlibeth was three. Theirs is a brother/sister relationship. Dresden has been impossible for others to handle, but Brinn insists he can set the little one on the right path. Here, we see the beginning of her relationship with Brinn.

Brinn got out and opened the rear door for Dresden. "Would you like help carrying your bag?"

"I can manage. I'm strong." The girl hoisted the tote bag onto her shoulder. The sack was nearly half her length, but she held onto it all the way to the door.

The garage led into a short mud room and then the kitchen. The tantalizing smell of garlic and onions wafted to him.

"Welcome home, sir." One of the house droids greeted him. "Welcome home, Ms. Hahlibeth, and Miss Dresden."

"You know my name?" The girl blinked up at him.

"I do. All the house droids will recognize you. Sir." The droid turned to Brinn. "Dinner will be ready in thirty minutes. Would you care for a drink before dining?"

Before Brinn could respond, Dresden stepped forward. "I'd like milk, please."

"I will prepare it at once. May I take your bag?"

"Oh, thank you." The girl pulled it off her shoulder and dropped it to the floor. "That thing is heavy."

"Not to worry, Miss Dresden. I'll see it's delivered to your room at once."

"Thank you."

The droid walked away with the small satchel.

Hahlibeth looked everywhere but at Brinn.

"You know," Brinn said, stooping beside Dresden, "I did offer to help you with your bag."

"He's a droid. He's supposed to help people. I don't owe him anything. If you helped me, then I'd owe you. I don't want to owe anybody anything."

"I see." He moved to one knee. "Why is that?"

"Because if you owe people, they can control you." She narrowed her eyes, and a predatory gleam came over her face. "And nobody controls me."

Artwork: Son, where is your tie? #SciFiArt #SciFi #MFRWhooks

The banner above was one of the first homepage images on my site. I love it! It was created for me by Laura Givens. She was the cover artist for many of my books, pre-indie. In this image, she put all the guys in tuxedos and grouped them as if they were at a party.

Everyone is either looking at Senth (on the right), or glancing at Luc on the left. Luc is giving Senth a serious look because Senth has lost his tie. In case you’re not familiar with the stories, Luc is Senth’s adoptive father, having reared him from age three.

The Kin who is just to the right of Luc is Jawk Brighton. He had a fling with Luc while Luc was still in a relationship with Wulf Gabriel (center, with a bow tie).

I really love how Laura captured Wulf's smile and personality -- he is a supermodel and always looks amazing. In one book, Luc muses that Wulf's smile is in half the dentist offices in the Empire.

In the background to the right of Jawk is Alitus Vivaldi. Alitus is the Minister of Imperial Intelligence for the Imperial Armada, and up until the book Jawk, Tales of the Chosen, had been in an exclusive relationship with Empress Rheyn Destoiya.

When Luc and Wulf had a falling out, Alitus comforted Wulf, who was also a Chosen. They became partners in spying for the empress, and much closer than friends, much to Luc’s dismay.

Between Wulf and Senth is the blond-haired and blue-eyed Khyff Antonello, Senth’s half brother. He is checking out Luc's reaction.

With the exception of Jawk, these guys are in almost every book I've written set in the Tarthian Empire.

I thought it would be fun to see this art, especially as it reveals so much about their personalities.

Time to come out of hiding. Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman @AmieKaufman and Jay Kristoff @misterkristoff #SciFi #YA #Read

Usually, if there's a series, I share info about book one. But today, I'm showing you book two. Why? Because the cover is just so... yum.

As you know, tall blond heroes are my jam *cough Pietas cough*, and this image is too appealing for me to pass up.

Who says you can't judge a book by its cover? Oh yes you can.

Check out Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

Genre - YA SciFi, Space Opera

I featured this book in my newsletter some time back, and thought I'd share it with you too. Enjoy!

First, the bad news: an ancient evil--you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal--is about to be unleashed.

The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day.

They've just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

Like the clan of gremps who'd like to rearrange their favorite faces.

And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who'll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.

Then there's Kal's long-lost sister, who's not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back.

With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.

When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it's time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them.

But time is short, and if Auri can't learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.

Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion's most unforgettable heroes--and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.
