In this scene from Alitus, Pietas, the immortal king, prepares himself to receive his sister. As was his habit, he's purposefully kept her waiting. This scene gives a little hint as to why.

Le Persequor - lurk mode (invisible), Throne Room
Sumertsag 42, 4664 Tradestandard

Alitus, Tales of the Chosen #MMRomance #WriteLGBTQ #SciFiLord Pietas ap Lorectic mounted the dais of the cavernous throne room, and adjusted the hang of his white fur cape before seating himself. He fussed with its fall around his feet, and finally motioned to his android bodyguard. "The mirror."

Uurah angled the full length glass for him.

Placing his hands on the armrests of the throne, Pietas lifted his chin. The stately pose showed off his long platinum hair, and the satin turquoise lining of his cape. It also reflected the empty chamber with its simple throne.

"No." Pietas stood. "I don't like it. My sister won't be impressed."

"How can she not be, my lord? You are king of the immortals."

"You would think so, Uurah, but this is my twin sister we're talking about. Dessy's not surprised by anything I do. She's been at my side since before we were born. My sister can't even fathom the concept of my birth having occurred before hers being a sign of my superiority. She certainly won't take notice of my clothing or appearance."

"I cannot imagine anyone not being awed by you, Lord Pietas."

"You would say that, Uurah. You're my bodyguard."

Uurah propped the mirror and approached him. "I'm more than your bodyguard, my lord. I'm a sentient being capable of making independent decisions and forming opinions. You yourself gave me that freedom. I would tell you if I disagreed." Uurah inclined his head. "As I have done whenever justified."

"True. To my great annoyance. In fact, I've wished a few times I hadn't made you impossible for me to kill."

"Have you, my lord?" Unlike most androids, Uurah could defend himself. No human could stand against him, and most Sempervians would have difficulty doing so. As a sentient being, under the laws Pietas had written for his people, Uurah had the right to defend himself against anyone, even Pietas himself. Of all the androids in the Sempervian army, Uurah alone had the right to prevent Pietas from destroying him. "Why is that?"

"Because—" Pietas considered a moment. "I created you to appear human." He played with the hang of a sleeve. "You have a better memory than I do. Mine is eidetic, so I never forget, but there are some things I choose not to pay attention to, and you pay attention to all details. You're a good complement for me. Therefore, I need you. Besides, you know the rules of Peril, and you keep me honest when I'm playing. And you and my cat—" He chewed his lower lip, loathe to admit the last.

"The cat and I... what, my lord?"

"Are my only companions."

Uurah smiled. "My lord Pietas, I serve your pleasure. To be considered your companion is my highest honor." He made a bow.

"So you think this cape is all right?"

"Certainly not, my lord. You are never 'all right.' You are perfect."

"I so rarely see anyone." Pietas avoided looking into the dark area behind Uurah. "It's lonely on this ship." He heaved a sigh. "Never mind. Let's stay with this outfit. I've already tried on three, and she's been waiting for..." He paused. "How long?"

"My lord, who would mind waiting for you?"

#Review: Edge by Susan Mac Nicol #MMRomance #RockstarRomance

Edge by Susan Mac Nicol #MMRomance #RockstarRomance

Edge by Susan Mac Nicol #MMRomance #RockstarRomanceKeeping a diary to chronicle his exploits since youth inspires Jory Longstone's music. He finds solace in managing his complicated life through the written word, which he never intended for anyone else to read.

Until one man did, and now that man controls Jory's life.

While his band's star is rising, Jory remains trapped and ashamed—closed off from emotional attachments for fear of discovery.

And then he meets Damian Foyle, manager of a family-owned cinema, a place where Jory loves to hide and relax. Damian, the antithesis of a rockstar, loves martial arts classes, tinkering with motor parts, and the simple life.

Damian's first meeting with Jory is just shy of a disaster, and yeah, the second one isn't all that great either.

Jory is a nuisance, devilishly attractive, temperamental, and a fantastic rock god in snug pants. It's all Damian can do not to burn up in the heat of the man's fiery personality. Reaching his heart, however, is an entirely different matter, and Damian will accept nothing less.

Edge

In Edge, Susan Mac Nicol explores the turbulent world of Jory Longstone, a talented rockstar who uses his diary to channel his tumultuous thoughts and experiences into music. The pages of his diary, meant to be a private sanctuary, become a double-edged sword when someone infiltrates his secrets.

With his band soaring to success, Jory grapples with shame and fear of exposure, leading him to construct emotional barriers that estrange him from genuine connections.

However, everything changes when Jory encounters Damian Foyle, the grounded manager of a local cinema. Unlike the glitzy world of rock and roll, Damian finds joy in ordinary pursuits—martial arts, tinkering with engines, and living a simpler life. Their first meetings are anything but smooth; a mix of chaos and undeniable attraction creates a fiery chemistry that neither can ignore.

Jory's compelling allure and rockstar bravado challenge Damian's composure, but penetrating the man's emotional armor will require more than mere charm.

As they navigate their budding relationship, Damian determines to break through Jory's defenses and help him confront his fears. But how can Jory embrace vulnerability and allow love to flourish, with the weight of fame and secrecy trapping him in solitude?

Edge is a passionate tale of love, resilience, and the search for authentic connection amidst the pressures of a sensational life.

#Review: Skating to Him by Christie Gordon #MMRomance #HockeyRomance

Skating to Him by Christie Gordon #MMRomance #HockeyRomance

I'm skating to the NHL while he's running from his past. When we collide, am I brave enough to take the shot?

Tyler

Then Coach pairs me with Rowan, the new guy from Boston.

He's talented, sharp, and annoyingly irresistible.

When he asks to hit the gay bar with me and my friends, I chalk it up to curiosity.

But one too many drinks later, I spill my truth—and suddenly, he's looking at me like he's ready to cross a line he's never touched before.

I've been burned by straight guys before, and I'm not about to get hurt again.

Rowan swears he's different. Can I risk believing him?

Rowan

Leaving Boston was my escape—from my mom's illness, from the pressure, from myself.

But playing alongside Tyler changes everything. He's not just the best defenseman I've ever met, he's magnetic and so guarded I ache to know what's underneath.

I've never wanted a man before, but Tyler makes me question everything I knew about myself.

I need him to see I'm not playing games.

This is real. He's real.

And I won't stop fighting until he believes it.

Skating to Him is the fifth book in the college hockey series, Desert Ice Hockey, and is the follow up to the Rock U series. It features a D-man burned by a curious straight guy and another having a bisexual awakening, hurt/comfort, and found family among the backdrop of the holidays. Desert Ice Hockey follows a group of queer hockey players, known as the squad, while they each battle for their HEA.

Explore a world where emotions run as high as the heated hockey isn't the only game in town...

Skating to Him

This MM book by Christie Gordon enjoyably combines hockey and romance. The chemistry between Tyler and Rowan begins right at the start. Tyler, a talented defenseman, is cautious after regrettable experiences, while Rowan running from his own issues. Their relatable journey captures the challenges of opening up to someone new.

Gordon does a great job balancing the excitement of hockey with the emotional stakes of the characters' lives. The supportive friends in the story add depth, creating a sense of community that adds a wonderful warmth. You can feel the brotherhood among the squad, which makes the lighter moments even better.

Rowan exploring his feelings for Tyler and questioning his own identity seems natural. The dynamic between the two kept me reading. They face relevant issues in an entertaining ride that captures the spirit of love and friendship in a tight-knit setting. Skating to Him offers a satisfying blend of sports and romance that even someone like me, who doesn't follow hockey, can relate to. The main impact is the relationship of the characters, and Gordon does a great job of showing their story.

Alitus: Tales of the Chosen #WriteLGBTQ #SciFi #MMRomance

In this scene from Alitus, Tales of the Chosen, the spymaster Alitus is in the Stable, a harem of male pleasure slaves kept by the Empress. After a brief altercation with Rudy a few days before, Alitus has come to apologize. The groom who oversees security is waiting outside, having warned Alitus not to resort to violence.

Excerpt

Imperial Palace, the Stable
Alitus, Tales of the Chosen #MMRomance #WriteLGBTQ #SciFiKeeper Wing

As the door opened, Alitus turned to face it, lowering both hands to his sides. If he released his pheromones now, it would lower Rudy's resistance. The pheromones gave Alitus a distinct advantage. Using them to coerce, however, was not in his nature.

The man stood in the doorway, blocking the groom's entrance behind him, and made a small gesture. "I got this, Byrin." The door shut behind him.

Alitus steeled himself for confrontation, hyper-aware of Rudy's stillness, like the motionless menace of an animal poised to strike.

Rudy took three steps into the room and halted. He wore gym shoes, socks, loose shorts, and a white towel around his neck. A white headband held dark hair out of his eyes. A fine sheen of sweat covered him. Rudy was built like Alitus, but more athletic, his muscles more defined. Alitus was blond; Rudy brunet. Both blue-eyed, Alitus's were ocean dark, Rudy's, sky pale. Alitus had been bred for intellect, and Rudy for natural earthiness and sensuality.

"How you doin', Alitus?" The man lifted a corner of the towel and wiped his face, dabbing at his nose, which had a bluish tinge on its left side. The color had seeped into the area below his left eye as well.

"This will never work." Alitus shook his head. "We're far too different."

"Yeah, well, nice to see you, too, you smartass." Rudy jerked open the door.

Outside, Byrin stood like a guard dog off its leash, waiting for a finger snap from its master.

"Wait." Alitus held up one hand. "I'm sorry."

No answer at first. Rudy studied him. "For what? That I'm leavin' 'cause I don't have time for your bullshit? Or that you didn't break my nose?"

"Neither." Alitus gestured for him to shut the door, which Rudy did. "I'm sorry we got off to such a bad start. I should have begun this conversation by saying I was sorry."

"Oh, yeah?" Rudy folded his arms. "That supposed to make it all 'better,' Better?" Before Alitus could answer, Rudy put in, "Let's get something straight right up front. I'm doing this for Her Majesty, not you. I don't need your apology or want it, so if that's all you came for, you can go. I'll fill in for you because she asked me to. I don't need another reason."

"Fine, then."

"Fine." Rudy jutted his chin upward.

Neither spoke. Neither looked away.

Alitus let out a long sigh. "Damn it, Rudy, I was a smartass."

A grin stole across the man's face. "You've got a mean right hook, you bastard."

"If it makes you feel any better, my hand still hurts."

The two men met in the middle of the room and shook hands, Alitus still gloved. When Rudy squeezed, Alitus winced.

The other man didn't let go. "What the hell were you thinkin', man?"

Alitus withdrew and rubbed his hand. "She makes me crazy. I didn't think."

Rudy cuffed him on the shoulder. "If I used an excuse like that I'd get thrown out of here."

"Haven't got one better."

"Punny." Rudy wrapped his hands around the ends of his towel. "You do realize what a problem this veil thing is going to be for droid security, don't you? I've been reading up on them. The stuff that keeps the pheromones inside makes it so droids can't read through them to know who's who. An assassin could walk right up to Her Majesty and no one would be the wiser until it was too late."

"I know. That's why they're limiting Better access to her. We won't be able to get an audience until we've been screened. Another way to screw us."

"On a different note, how am I going to get from the Stable to your office without being seen in that Veil thing?"

He lifted one shoulder. "Use the passageway from the Stable to my old office and then go from there. It's the one right outside hers."

Rudy gave him a puzzled look.

"You know." Alitus gestured. "The passage you use when she calls for a Jade during the work day." When no response came, Alitus sighed. "You mean she's never summoned you for a quickie?"

"You bastard." Rudy twisted his mouth in a sardonic grimace. "I'll bet she called you. Which is another reason for me to dislike you."

Alitus rocked on the balls of his feet.

"You smug son-of-a-bitch. Why I like you is beyond me."

#Review: The Best Man's Secret by Ana Ashley #MMRomance #GayRomanceBeing the best man is hard. Being in love with the groom is worse.

A note under my door, and suddenly, I have to tell my best friend he's been jilted on his wedding day.

When it comes to Adam, there's nothing I won't do. I'll go on his honeymoon, invite him to live with me, and forget I'm keeping secrets that could destroy our friendship.

I've wanted Adam for years, and now it seems my feelings are less one-sided than I thought.

Crossing this line could cost everything. After all, there's a reason you shouldn't fall for your best friend—especially when he thinks he's straight.

The Best Man's Secret is a steamy MM romance featuring childhood friends, forced proximity, bi-awakening, and a love brewing for decades.

Expect romance, heat, fun, and secrets that won't stay hidden for long.

The Best Man's Secret

What a great read. The chemistry between the main characters, Adam and his best friend, was believable and sweet. I really liked how the friends-to-lovers trope played out in a natural, non-rushed way. The tension building between them felt genuine and kept me turning pages.

One of the best parts of this book was Adam’s exploration of his feelings. Adam’s realization about himself and his relationship with his best friend blossomed gradually. This made the romantic connection between them feel sincere and emotional.

The forced proximity scenario added just the right amount of tension and humor, which balanced the romance and drama. Dialogue was fun, realistic, and added depth to both main characters.

Highly recommended.

#Review: The Season by Mel Gough #MMRomance #HistoricalRomanceIt's 1911, and the Montague estate is aflutter with anticipation – the second daughter of the Earl of Carran is about to announce her engagement to Lord Henry, the youngest son of the Marquess of Cliffe. Family and servants are in London to celebrate the big announcement at a grand soiree during this year's season.

But Lord Henry is not the perfect match everyone had hoped for. He has a secret, and a nasty streak, which footman Ted soon finds out as he attempts to resist Henry's unwanted attention.

Meanwhile, Richard, Lord Carran's valet, receives an offer that is very difficult to refuse.

Torn between his love for Ted and the prospect of new adventures, he is too distracted to notice his lover's predicament, until a scandal is upon them that could destroy their good names and their future happiness.

The Season

This book by Mel Gough was an enjoyable read. I liked how the historical setting came across as believable and detailed without feeling formal. Richard and Ted are strong, likable characters, and their relationship drew me right in from the start. There's a good balance between romance and drama. The way the book handled tougher topics, like power and class differences, felt thoughtful. This was an engaging story and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

What will he sacrifice for a love that defies the odds? #MMRomance #Vampires #ReviewFive years after vampires claimed Earth as their feeding ground, Owen thought he'd mastered the art of staying invisible. But when the enigmatic Prince Riven chooses him as his first and only thrall, Owen discovers surrender can be as sweet as it is dangerous.

Caught between burning desire and the brutal politics of the vampire court, Owen must decide if his growing love for the prince is worth the price of his humanity.

A spicy M/M dark paranormal romance for adults only. Contains mpreg, blood drinking and tones of gay vampire heat.

This is a fun read for anyone into gay romance with a twist. Owen’s life takes a wild turn when he becomes the chosen thrall for Prince Riven. The dynamic between them is intense, with plenty of chemistry and tension. Owen’s struggle between desire and the darker aspects of vampire life adds a fascinating layer. The blend of romance and the supernatural keeps things interesting, and the story has its fair share of steamy moments. If you’re looking for something spicy with a bit of drama, this book might just hit the spot.

This book was previously 14 short stories that have been combined into one novel.

He hid in plain sight #SciFi #Romance #MFRWhooks

Alitus: Tales of the Chosen #WriteLGBTQ #SciFi #MMRomance

In this scene from Alitus - Tales of the Chosen, the hero is making his first public appearance in a veil, a head-to-shoulders garment similar to a burqa. Betters are enhanced humans whose pheromones can addict and whose voices put a human in thrall. Now regulated by the imperial government, they must wear an electronic veil that alters their voices and captures their pheromones.

Excerpt

Alitus tilted back his head and set a hand atop the veil to keep it from slipping.

Prentice approached. The android servant and bodyguard of the Empress towered over everyone.

Great. Just what he needed. "What do you want, Prentice?"

"Her Majesty asked me to watch over you." Though never far from the Empress, Prentice did not make his presence obvious. Easy to forget he was there.

"You've watched me. Tell her I don't need a watchdog. I will do my duty."

"Is the veil heavy? You keep lowering your head."

"No." Alitus adjusted the hang across his shoulders and pulled it away from his body in front. "It's hot. I can hardly breathe."

"Perhaps you should turn it on."

"What?" Alitus held the veil against his face so he could better see. "It's hard to hear."

"Touch the inner brim above your right ear."

Alitus stroked one finger along the edge. "There's a series of small bumps."

"Press them from front to back to increase the cooling effect."

Bracing himself for a breeze, Alitus touched the first bump. Instead, the humidity lessened. He took the first deep breath he'd been able to draw since donning the garment. "Thank you."

"The bumps about a finger's width above them adjust visibility. Did no one show you how to operate it?"

"No. I didn't know there was anything else to it." Alitus touched the upper controls; the room's brightness increased by half. He tapped the others in sequence until his view of the veil disappeared. "Is this still opaque?" He held up a hand. "I can see every stitch in my glove."

"You'll be able to see in any lighting, but no one will be able to see you."

"Great. I'll be invisible."

Prentice leaned toward him. "Almost like an android."

Review How to Say I Do by Tal Bauer

How to Say I Do by Tal Bauer #MMRomance #BooksI loved this book, and cried happy tears. I laughed out loud with this book. A brilliant mix of emotions in this story. My first time reading this author, but won't be my last. Highly recommended.

How to Say I Do is an exploration of love that transcends societal boundaries, revealing the collision of two different worlds through the eyes of Noël and Wyatt. Set against the sun-kissed backdrop of Cancun, Tal Bauer crafts a world where Manhattan's glitz intermingles with Texas grit, creating a rich tapestry of emotion and connection.

Noël, with his shimmering life in PR, and Wyatt, the grounded Texas rancher, epitomize the classic trope of opposites attract. Noël's poignant longing for authenticity beneath layers of glitter drew me. Wyatt embodies warmth and simplicity, penetrating Noël's well-guarded heart with his genuine kindness. Their chemistry is electric, weaving through laugh-out-loud moments and heart-wrenching revelations that kept me glued to the pages.

Bauer's writing resonates on every level, blending humor with emotional depth. The slow-burn romance feels real and earned, leading to a satisfying swoon-worthy climax. I rooted for their love story, immersed in the passion and tenderness that developed throughout their journey.

With themes of self-discovery, second chances, and the beauty of vulnerability, How to Say I Do left me with an overwhelming sense of hope and joy. This delightful tale is a must-read, perfect for anyone who believes in love that knows no bounds. Grab your sunglasses, pour a margarita, and get ready to fall in love!

About How to Say I Do

Opposites attract, sure. But when Manhattan glitz collides with Texas grit, will love be enough?

Noël:

Manhattan is my heart and soul. In the cutthroat world of elite public relations, I’m one of the princes. I manage global superstars, predict the up-and-coming trends, easy. And social media? That’s my specialty. I can make you, hon, and launch you straight to the stratosphere. My life is champagne glitter and starlight, and everything around me is gold. But then, my own wedding bells turn into alarm bells, and suddenly, I’m off to Cancun—alone. Alone with a first-class ticket to a honeymoon for one. All that gold? Tarnished tin. Everything I thought I knew? Gone.

Cancun is supposed to be where I obliterate myself on margaritas and tropical waves. Forget the past, shake off the pain, and look ahead. It’s my strategy, always has been. But beneath it all, I long for someone to see the real me, the Noël I’ve hidden away for years. I’m so damn lonely.

And then I meet Wyatt.

He’s nothing like me. He’s a rancher from Texas, he can’t tell me whether high waist jeans are in or out, and he’d rather work his fields than rub elbows with celebs. Velvet rope lines and VIP access are meaningless to him. He’s also kinder than me, and altruistic in a way I haven’t seen since cargo pants died as a trend in the early 2000s. He’s the best man I’ve ever met.

And that’s a problem, because all of his big-hearted warmth and Texas gentleness is drawing me in. I’m desperate to surrender, but I can’t. Good things aren’t meant for me. I’m no good for Wyatt. In fact, I’m his looming heartbreak.

So why am I kissing him?

Wyatt:

I’m a man of the land, made from the Texas soil I work on, strengthened by the vineyard I tend to. It’s a world I’ve carefully nurtured, a balm for the wounds of my past. This life hasn’t been easy, but it’s mine. I’m fiercely protective of the world I’ve built for me, my brother, his fiancée, and my nephew. The four of us are everything that matters to me, and my life and my cares extend to my cross fences and the edges of my range. Everything else out there? It’s all just dust in the wind.

And then Noël blows into my life.

I’m gone. Captivated, spun around, tipped upside down and torn apart. I can’t breathe; being around Noël makes me feel like I’m sixteen again and hiding all my secret fantasies and unspoken desires. I’m down in Cancun with my family, and this isn’t the time to be falling for a guy, but how can you not fall head over heels when the man of your dreams walks into your world?

Noël’s many multi-hued layers fascinate me and perplex me, and I want to spend every minute unraveling him. Noël’s life is glittering gold, and mine is Texas soil, but I can learn to understand Manhattan, pop culture, and celebrities if that means I get to be Noël’s man.

But does Noël feel the same? What is this between us? Is it just a week that we both need, a Pause on life, out here in this place so far removed from our real lives? Or is this the start of something new and huge and life-changing for the two of us? What am I seeing in Noël’s eyes when he looks at me?

And what’s going to happen when this week ends?

How to Say I Do is an opposites-attract, slow-burn, bi-awakening, rom-com-meets-heartfelt romance love story full of swoony beach vacation vibes, laugh-out-loud moments, and grab-your-chest heartache. Add a sprinkle of fake husbands, second chance romance, small town vibes, and celebrity shenanigans, and you’ve got the makings of Wyatt and Noël’s love story.

Pour yourself into the sand and sun and enjoy Noël and Wyatt’s journey to their Happy Ever After.

Honestly Yours

Honestly Yours by Jaime Reese offers a refreshing take on romance, blending humor, warmth, and a hint of intrigue. The relationship between Warren Prescott and Gian Benedetti unfolds in a manner that feels both genuine and relatable. Warren, with his energetic spirit and determination, stands in contrast to Gian's more guarded nature.

Their banter is witty and delightful, enriching the story and making their budding connection feel both realistic and engaging. Reese crafts the world of the story with enough tension to keep readers engaged. The two are vulnerable without becoming sentimental.

The age-gap element, handled with care, allows both men to learn and grow from one another's experiences. External complications add an intriguing layer, forcing both men to confront their feelings and desires.

With moments of levity balanced by honest self-reflection, Honestly Yours provides pleasure on multiple levels. The small gestures of affection and touches of animal trivia sprinkle in charm, enhancing the overall story. This novel captures finding love amidst life's chaotic challenges, making it a great read for anyone seeking a heartwarming gay romance.

Honestly Yours—an age-gap standalone romance featuring a snarky younger man with a giant crush on a good-hearted, affectionate, bisexual older man. Expect some banter, a little mystery, a few twists, a dash of angst, curious parents, animal trivia, and a whole lot of love…and hugs (so many hugs).
