The book merges sci-fi elements with the martial arts, using familiar tropes and humor to create a fun adventure. It's part kung-fu movie, with the flavor of a spy thriller with a dash of cyberpunk. Favorite genres blended into a melting pot. This novel is based on a feature film script being developed into a movie.

The Problem with Uncle Teddy's Memoir

This is officially an "epistolary novel," made of letters, email, office notes, as well as the manuscript pages of the memoir. It's not usually the way sci-fi stories are told (though the original Dracula was!). The memoir has the point of view of the titular alien, but the interleaving pages concern how two human friends deal with the memoir and the uncomfortable memories it stirs up. Originally written as a standalone novel, The Problem with Uncle Teddy's Memoir became the first volume of The Aleronde Trilogy, simply because the characters wouldn't leave me alone.

The Anchor of Time definitely has some fresh takes on old tropes. For one, the 'chosen one' main heroine is a hair stylist, and I for one have not read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi with a time traveling hair stylist. There is a psychic Tardigrade that changes appearances depending on who it has a psychic link with (their appearance is just a projection of what you want to see), and there is also a sentient quantum computer. Combined with dimensional shift in every chapter, as well the end is also the beginning because the story is told in a time loop.

Céline Glaude withdraws from reality as often as possible. She believes in magic, dragons, alternate dimensions, and aliens, and she is patiently waiting for the Doctor to take her on adventures in space and time.

She was raised on crawfish, Disney movies, musicals, epic fantasy, Star Trek, and Westerns, so creating stories seems logical to her. As a new author, she specializes in genre-hopping. Be prepared for anything from vampires to dark heroines or even elves and escapades in space.

This is one of my favorite SF books. I read it, then Green Mars, and finally Blue Mars. A later book called The Martians came out separately but actually continues this series.

If you like geology, you'll love this book.

I Googled terms I'd never heard of, because the way Kim Stanley Robinson writes is so compelling that you want to know every single detail from accretions to karsts to veins of silica.

This book got me invested in geology. I still follow the topic today.

This near-future chronicle of interplanetary colonization ought to be a must read for anyone who wants to go to Mars.

The barren landscape of the red planet welcomes a group of one hundred colonists on a mission to transform Mars into a more Earthlike planet. But it doesn't make anything easy.

Are you a fan of the realism of The Expanse like I am? If you relished the side story about colonizing Mars, then Robinson's expertise in his field will appeal to you. Warning - the great storyline is liable to get you permanently hooked on the series.
