Trailing Kaiwulf: Colonies of Man a science fiction origin story #DarkFantasy #Mythology #Archaeology

Why Trailing Kaiwulf Exists

When readers encounter the science fiction origin story Trailing Kaiwulf, they're stepping into a moment in a universe that has been unfolding for thousands of years.

In two other sagas—Immortal Empires and Fallen Empires—the Gates of Life are spoken of in fragments and echoes. Massive paired arches found on worlds across the galaxy, their purpose obscured when Pietas, the Bringer of Chaos, was exiled and their locations lost. For over ten thousand years, humanity feared that the truth behind these Gates had vanished forever.

It hadn't.

In the Colonies of Man—set in the central galaxy rather than the fringes—archaeologists have begun recovering lost history. On the independent world of New Braeswcyck, the Monastery of St. Aldentia preserved records spanning more than 2,300 years, chronicling events from the Great Colonization through the Second Cycle of Wars. These discoveries have reopened questions humanity once believed unanswerable.

Trailing Kaiwulf begins in CE 15,181, with Dr. Viva Post, a premier archaeologist studying one of the few remaining functional Gates—still in use for an annual ritual on the planet Ust. The Gates are not just relics. They are active, meaningful, and central to forces still in motion.

This science fiction origin story exists to bring that history to life—not as a lecture, but as a lived experience.

Competence, Trust, and the Absence of Romance

Rather than centering the story on cosmic power, Trailing Kaiwulf follows two professionals doing their jobs.

Jee & Dane work for the Trace, Rescue, and Identification League—TRAIL—a regulated organization with rules, reports, and consequences. Dane is the towering academic: well-educated, methodical, and happily married with five sons. He works for TRAIL not because he's restless or broken, but because it allows him to care for his family the way he chooses.

Jee is the muscle. Compact, lethal, happily single, and utterly comfortable in her role. She reads manuals meant for assassins. She enjoys efficiency. And she has no interest in romantic complications—especially with her longtime partner.

Their relationship is built on absolute trust.

That choice was deliberate. Fiction often relies on gendered shortcuts to create tension, but this story pushes back against that expectation. Jee & Dane respect each other's competence. They share space without awkwardness. They protect each other without posturing. The result is a partnership that changes how danger, humor, and stakes land on the page.

In a science fiction origin story, sometimes the most radical thing a story can do is let people work together well.

Humor, Irony, and Paperwork

Danger in this universe is commonplace. Violence is regulated. Rules exist for a reason—and bending them comes with paperwork.

Which is why, at the end of Trailing Kaiwulf, Jee is genuinely thrilled to realize something unprecedented has occurred:
a mission where she didn't shoot anyone.

Not because she couldn't—but because she didn't have to.

That moment says everything about the world these characters inhabit. Chaos happens. Threats emerge. But competence, preparation, and trust can sometimes resolve things cleanly. And when they do, the real victory is fewer forms to file.

The humor in this story is situational, character-based, procedural, and dry. It's meant to sneak up on you. Ideally, it lands somewhere between a chuckle and a coffee-snort.

Why a Novella?

I designed Trailing Kaiwulf to be a science fiction origin story that was quick, complete, and accessible—a doorway into a much larger universe. The shorter length allows the story to do one thing well: introduce readers to a corner of the galaxy without requiring a long commitment.

For new readers, it offers a glimpse of a deep, interconnected setting. For longtime readers, it reveals another facet of a universe already in motion.

And for those who only ever read this one story?

I hope they remember this:
They visited a fun, deeply built world—one where the door remains open, and good stories are always waiting.

If you enjoy science fiction that values competence, trust, and irony over spectacle—and partnerships built on respect rather than tension—Trailing Kaiwulf might be your kind of story.

Trailing Kaiwulf: Colonies of Man #DarkFantasy #Mythology #ArchaeologyWhen you’re an outcast, how do you prove your worth?

In a galaxy where the bizarre is just another Tuesday, bounty hunters Dane and Jee have built their reputation on competence, paperwork, and absolute trust. Dane is the towering academic—the planner, the analyst, the one who thinks three steps ahead. Jee is the muscle: compact, lethal, and happiest when things go exactly according to procedure.

They work for the Trace, Rescue, and Identification League—TRAIL—a fact that means rules, reports, and very little tolerance for improvisation.

So when they’re hired to track a missing person last seen by an archaeologist on a long-forgotten alien world, the job sounds strange—but manageable. Until they learn the target is in another dimension.

And invisible.

They literally didn’t see that coming.

With an archaeologist desperate for answers, the military circling like vultures, and a payday tempting enough to promise real food and an actual vacation, Dane and Jee follow the trail into caves guarded by telepathic wolves, ancient peoples, and secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Finding an invisible man in another dimension is hard enough. Finding the truth behind why he’s missing may be impossible.

Trailing Kaiwulf is a science fiction adventure with fantasy overtones, ironic humor, and a partnership built on trust, competence, and the rare joy of a mission where—miraculously—no one gets shot.

Which means less paperwork.

MM Fantasy, PNR, & SciFi Romance Book Fair

Power doesn’t decide who you love. It only reveals how carefully you must choose.

In speculative romance, love often exists in worlds shaped by imbalance — magic, immortality, rank, otherness. What matters is not who holds power, but how it’s handled, and what choices are made within it.

I don’t join every group event I’m invited to. For a multi-genre book fair like this one, I look for a shared spirit rather than surface similarity — stories that take both love and power seriously, and that allow relationships to develop with care rather than force. When I share an event here, it’s because I believe the books belong in that conversation.

The book fair brings together MM romance across fantasy, paranormal, and science fiction. These are stories where connection survives in extraordinary circumstances — not because it is easy, but because it is chosen.

Some explore magic or myth. Others lean into futuristic or paranormal worlds. What they share is an interest in deliberate love: relationships shaped by responsibility, restraint, and mutual regard rather than conquest.

If you enjoy MM romance that thinks as much as it feels — and that treats power as something to be handled thoughtfully — you may find something in this book fair worth exploring.

Can a vampire hunter ever trust a vampire?

After years on the sidelines, Zack Wright is ready to prove he's worthy of his family's monster hunting legacy. He's even got the details to the perfect first hunt. All he has to do is delete an email, kill a vampire, and join his family on the road.

#Review: Wrong Hunt by JS Harker #MMRomance #UrbanFantasy Roger has survived his sire's cruelty for three hundred years. He conspires with his closest allies to put an end to their torment. But one night in 1989, he falls into a magical coma. He wakes over thirty years later—with a hunter attempting to drive a stake into his heart.

Confused and weakened, Roger needs every advantage he can grasp. He offers Zack the opportunity to hunt his infamous sire. Taking down a legendary vampire would catapult Zack's reputation and cement his place in the family legacy. However, to get close to their prey, Zack must learn how to be Roger's pet. It's supposed to be an act, but Roger is gorgeous, seductive, and genuinely caring.

Catching feelings wasn't part of the plan. And despite the idyllic small town, someone keeps attempting to hunt the hunter. Can Zack learn to trust what should be his immortal enemy? Or will someone remove Roger's new ally before they have a chance to bond?

Wrong Hunt is the first novel of a series featuring the same lead characters. Strap in for a slow burn enemies-to-lovers, a trauma-repressed vampire, a hunter who has his world turned upside down and shaken, and a supernatural LGBT+ utopia.

Wrong Hunt

This MM book by JS Harker is a fun read that takes the classic vampire-hunter trope and twists it. The tension between Zack and Roger fills the story, along with their wit and charming interactions.

Zack, eager to step into his family's legacy, finds himself in over his head, making him relatable and easy to root for.

Roger, with his hidden layers and vulnerability, creates a fascinating dynamic that makes you think about trust and redemption.

Harker's immersive world-building grounds the supernatural in a small-town feel and adds depth. Watching the slow-burn romance unfold makes their eventual connection feel earned and satisfying. The hunt for Roger's sire and their personal growth increase the stakes. Each character's struggle to let down their guard is engaging and real.

Wrong Hunt blends urban fantasy and romance, setting up for more adventures in the series. It's a solid start that leaves you wanting more.

Unlocking Secrets: Myth and Science in the World of Trailing Kaiwulf #Mythology #Archaeology #MFRWhooks

Trailing Kaiwulf: Colonies of Man #DarkFantasy #Mythology #Archaeology

In this scene from Trailing Kaiwulf, Jee and Dane, two TRAIL agents, are briefed about their latest mission. Dive into a world where dark fantasy intertsects with cutting-edge science and ancient mythology. Meet the mysterious Kaiwulf, a genetically-altered human whose existence challenges our understanding of evolution and the consequences of humanity's meddling with its own genetic legacy.

Discovering Gens

Trailing Kaiwulf: Colonies of Man by Kayelle Allen #SciFi #DarkFantasy #ArchaeologyDane perched on the edge of Thompson's desk. "Does Dr. Post think these people are gens?"

"She's convinced Kaiwulf is."

"What's a gen?" When Dane looked her way, Jee shrugged. "Yeah, I'm ignorant. What's a gen?"

"Short for genetically-altered human," her partner answered. "The Terran Crescent kicked most of them out in...what century, Thompson? Thirty-eighth maybe?"

"About that."

"I bet they descended from original genetic experiments in the Colonies. Later, people saw the dangers, but for hundreds of years, drug and medical corporations ran uncontrolled human gene manipulation. What kind of abilities does Dr. Post think they have?"

"I'll get to that. She says if she can locate Kaiwulf, she stands a good chance of discovering how they became the way they are. He carries a key given to him by his mother. Dr. Post has a theory that the high priestess originally reported the progress of genetic changes to visiting scientists or clinicians, and that each planet might have been given its own special ability. One--"

Jee mimed a yawn. "Cut to the chase."

Thompson frowned. "Fine. Kaiwulf was sighted twice before they filmed him. First, he walked into Dr. Post in a cave and startled the devil out of both of them. When she screamed, he disappeared. She swears there was no other exit, yet no one saw him leave. A week later, she saw him again. It's been almost a month since and there's been no sign of him. So far, the only people they've seen on the planet are the sixty plus who live in a small village of thatched-roof huts. They're the last of a dying race. When questioned, they identified Kaiwulf as their outcast from years before."

Jee cracked her knuckles. "So they want this key of his, right?"

"More than that. Run the holovid in slow-mo. When Kaiwulf leaves, watch where he goes. I think you'll see the reason they're willing to pay TRAIL's price."

Jee flicked it on and reset the timing for slow.

"Someone on Dr. Post's staff leaked information about Kaiwulf to the Colonial Department of Defense." Thompson dialed back a setting on his BioMate. "She's determined to get to the boy before the military and bureaucrats do. They've kept a strong presence in the area for the last week, nosing into everything her team does. Slow it down a bit more, Jee. This is the part I want you to see. Pay attention to this."

In the holovid, Kaiwulf turned and walked toward the back of the cave.

"Jee!" Her wide-eyed partner blinked. "Did you fricking see that?"

She gave a slow nod, and faced Thompson, who had the gall to smirk.

Kaiwulf hadn't disappeared. He'd walked into the stone.

#Review: His Elf Knight by Aramis Jordan #MMRomance #FantasyRomantic relations between humans and elves are strictly forbidden, punishable by death. But what if temptation is stronger than fear?

When young baron James is attacked in his chambers, elf knight Raziel is assigned to him as his personal guard. Like all elves, Raziel must uphold his virtue, but he can't help falling for gorgeous, intelligent James.

With James's safety at risk, Raziel insists on guarding him day and night. But with every moment they spend together, temptation mounts until they're desperate enough to break the law and risk it all.

His Elf Knight is a 67,000 word MM forbidden love romance in a vivid fantasy setting. It features an intense love story, plenty of steam, close proximity, and two men who'd walk through fire to be together. A standalone romance in the Folk of Vale series. HEA guaranteed.

His Elf Knight

This book by Aramis Jordan was a solid read. I enjoyed from beginning to end. James and Raziel are a likable pair, with clear chemistry that made their connection fun to read. The forbidden romance plot, combined with the fantasy element, worked well and kept things interesting without ever feeling forced.

Jordan created believable tension around the idea of forbidden love and the risks involved, especially with Raziel's role as James's guard. In book one, James is not the most likable character, but in this book, he undergoes some serious change. When he falls in love, it's with everything he's got.

Each character felt relatable and added to the overall story. The author kept the plot fresh and balanced. The pacing was smooth and made it easy to relax and lose track of time while reading. I enjoyed reading a gay romance with excellent character development and honest emotional reactions. His Elf Knight left me satisfied and eager to read more books by this author.

Shadows of Treachery in Trailing Kaiwulf: Colonies of Man #DarkFantasy #Mythology #Archaeology

In the dark annals of the War of Phantasy, a queen's unexpected encounter with a male native unfolds a tapestry of treachery and fate. Their tale of love, loss, and the quest for knowledge offers a gripping glimpse into the intertwining destinies of realms. Bounty hunters Jee and Dane learn more about their assignment from Dr. Viva Post.

Treachery and Fate

"During the War of Phantasy, a female Phane served as a healer to Queen Ioca from the planet Faunus, in the Realm of the Dark Star." She folded her hands. "My neural net shows that according to legend, Queen Ioca landed on an unexplored world due to a ship malfunction, and while her crew repaired the damage, she scouted the area."

Dane perked up. "An explorer!"

"Yes. This is ironic, but a male native happened upon her while she was behind a waterfall near a cave. The queen was startled, and screamed. Her men pursued him, injuring him severely. Ioca insisted they search for his people, found no evidence of life, and theorized he had been the victim of a crash landing. They took him with them when they left, and were halfway back to her world before he woke from his coma."

Dane rubbed his jaw. "You think he was from Ust?"

"The people here told us part of the story, which syncs with history in the Realm of the Dark Star."

"Interesting." Dane wrapped his arms around the chairback. "So he wakes up on a ship bound for a planet halfway across the galaxy. Must be thinking, 'What treachery is this?" One big shock there."

"True." Dr. Post wheeled her chair a little closer. "The people feared the Saint of Silver's return, and her ship might have seemed like that. The people tell stories about the Saint requiring his servants to 'suffer pain' in order to 'serve his knowledge.'"

Jee shuddered. "Sounds like experimentation."

"Yes, dear. It does. And as you put it, treachery. The story goes that he became the queen's lover, and later, during her terminal illness, he became friends with her Phane healer. When the queen died, she left instructions that her lover was to be returned to his homeworld with anything he requested. The story says he took the woman who had tended the queen. Romantic, isn't it? Now, I ask you, why can't we see Kaiwulf?"

"Duh." Jee answered. "He's in another dimension."

"Yes, but why?"

It was quiet a moment. Jee frowned. "The people in this one kicked him out?"

"Where does a seven year-old go when his mother's people throw him out?"

"Of course." Dane hit his forehead. "His father's people. You already told us. The original gen was able to phase shift, but his wife wasn't. It's her blood that makes it possible for the village people to live in this dimension, right? Therefore, Kaiwulf is with the other people."

"That's right." Dr. Post smiled at Dane. "His father's people. When I heard his father was unknown, I did some checking. Of the three men likely to have fathered him, none laid claim."

"Why would they?" Jee rested her elbows on her knees. "He was an outcast."

"In a culture where great significance is placed on rote memorization of ancestry, Kaiwulf's father's name would be a vital piece of information. Its lack pointed to a father from outside the clan. Hence, one of the natives of this world."

"Dr. Post?" Dane gestured to the image of Kaiwulf. "Where did the wolves get the ability to phase shift?"

"It's not inconceivable that many of the early experiments were carried out on animals. There are records of such things at St. Aldentia. You have to remember the early Terrans may have had exalted means of space travel, but they were not as refined morally as we are today."

"Right." Jee rolled her eyes. "I'll let the 'morally refined' comment pass, okay? But I've listened to all this, and I still don't have a clue how we can help you. If he's in another dimension, how are we supposed to find him?"

She folded her hands. "My dear, as you pointed out, you're bounty hunters. And now that you know where he is," she looked from Jee to Dane, "all you have to do is figure out how to go to the other dimension and bring him back."

The Dark Secret

In the shadowy realms of Kellindahr, danger lurks beyond every mountain pass. As dawn breaks over Sammon Falls, two unlikely allies—bound by secrets and loyalty—face a perilous journey to the fabled Gates, harboring a dark secret.

We were up long before light and into the mountains as day broke. Sammon Falls, to the east of us, sent up its mist like smoke, luminous in the dawn. The river it emptied into stretched toward the north, a silver ribbon stitched against the green velvet of Kellindahr's rich farmlands. From the hills, I could see the bright arch of the Gates far to the west; at least another two days away, since we dared not use the roads. I pointed them out to Estria.

"Big." She cradled the babe closer. "Do we 'ave to go through 'em? Can't we just say we did?"

"Dahr said he'd die if he didn't. It offends the Faerii."

She scoffed at that. "Anything a Kellindahrii doesn't want to dirty her hands with is summat that offends the Faerii. The bleedin' Faerii don't give a lick about these Gates." But, I noticed, she did not discount the Faerii's existence.

I stopped and rose in the stirrups to look back. "Anyway, I gave her my word."

"I'd not let word to 'er keep me up at night." Her mouth set in a flat line. "I can tell you, she never stayed up worryin' about breakin' 'er own." She fussed with the blanket around Dahryc and put a finger in his mouth to break suction on her breast. "Lor' he's worse than 'is father." She shot me a look, her cheeks flushed.

She had to have gotten her milk by giving birth to someone's child. "Where's your son?" Dahr had told me Orix fathered boys.

"Farmed out somewhere. Her ladyship won't tell me where till we come back. Some dark secret."

"A dark secret? Hmm. Mayhap." But I knew my former lover too well not to have understood her earlier comment. "His father is King Orix, isn't he?"

She proceeded to dress me down for such a heinous accusation, reminding me in heated terms of our mutual lineage, although she called mine into question. I listened without comment, amused that all the women of my clan seemed to have inherited 'tongues of flame,' as Orix called it. When she'd finished mouth whipping me, she pulled her cloak tighter around her shoulders, and tossed back her hair. So much for her image as a wisp of a girl.

In the shadows of war and under the weight of royal secrets, a single moment changes destiny. As the Queen of Qarth and Kellindahr lies in a fragile state, a simple request shatters the soft veneer of tranquility, leaving Raik caught in a web of loyalty and fear for what the future may hold.

From Chapter Two:

The Last Vhalgenn: Colonies of Man by Kayelle Allen #SciFi #Fantasy #RomanceAt midnight, I woke with a church bell chiming in the distance. I was sitting on a stone floor with Orix's head on my lap. Cyrus stooped beside me, a scarecrow in brocade, hair sticking out of his nightcap like straw spun of pure silver.

"Brought ye some hot cider." He pressed an earthen mug into my hand. While I drank, he wrapped my shoulders with a heavy cloak, a similar one already thrown over Orix. "Not so chilled now, eh?" His widely spaced teeth sparkled in a crooked smile. "Good. Now you go yonder and rest." He nodded toward a pallet by the door. "I'll sit with him."

He knew I wouldn't argue—it would wake Orix—and managed to slide a hand under our sovereign's head while I slid out from beneath him. I made use of the water closet hidden in the wall and then stretched out on the pallet. I fell deep into exhausted sleep.

One of Dahr's women shook me awake later and had to tell me twice that the queen had summoned me before I would believe it. Cyrus, asleep sitting up, did not see me leave. Feet dragging, knuckling my eyes, I followed the woman into the queen's bedchamber.

Dahr lay flat, legs raised with a pile of pillows. Her ashen face was bleak. Grim exhaustion tugged at the corners of her mouth. Dahr's Lady in Waiting touched the queen's hand and Dahr's eyes fluttered open. After a struggle, she focused on me.

Recognition replaced the glazed dazzle of sleep and she arched her brows at her Lady. The woman dropped a polite curtsey and left, shooing out several other women in the room. Kellindahrii, judging by their clothes.

"Please." Dahr whispered. "Sit."

I sat on a stool next to the bed, wincing at its hardness on my still-sore rear. A yawn fought for possession of my mouth.

She touched my arm. "How's Orix?"

"Worried. He's sleeping outside. Shall I get him?"

"No!" She clutched my rough hand with her dainty one; eyes squeezed shut, tears darkening her lashes.

"Are you in pain? Shall I call the doctors?"

She rocked her head back and forth, lips bitten together.

I patted her hand, smarting with my own uselessness. A soldier can dress an honest battle wound and dress it with herbs, grease, and bandages. But to watch a frail woman suffer, bleeding senselessly, dying a tiny piece at a time... How could I even offer comfort? If she died... I refused to think of that. Or of where Orix would look for consolation.

She tightened her grip on my hand, slim fingers digging into my skin. "Promise me."

I leaned closer, straining to hear, afraid of what she was about to say. I sensed she was waiting for me to speak. "Promise what, Your Majesty?"

"Promise me. First."

The soldier in me prompted obedience, but the part of me schooled to love Orix screamed warnings. I compromised. "So long as it violates no law, nor any oath I've sworn to Qarth or Kellindahr, I'll swear it."

She let out a long sigh, and relaxed her grip. For a moment I thought she slept.

"Take him," she whispered. "Take him home."

"Who? You mean Orix?" I went down on one knee, my ear close to her mouth, but I missed her next words. "I don't understand. Are you..."

"Him." Her voice was as weak as a third echo. "Him. Take him home." She moved her other hand, revealing a bundled babe hidden beside her.

I know my mouth dropped open. I heard my own choked gasp as I staggered to my feet.

The Queen of Qarth and Kellindahr had given birth and no one had called the King? As if she heard my thoughts, she clutched my robe.

"Don't tell him, Raik! Please don't! Don't call Orix in here!"

Her desperation triggered something deep within me, instinct perhaps. It rose up like panic or dread, cutting off my ability to speak. There could only be one reason—something amiss with the babe.

#Review: Sword Dance by AJ Demas #MMRomance #MythologyFive years ago, Damiskos's brilliant military career was cut short, leaving him with a permanent disability and scars that are not all physical. Adrift and still grieving, he tries to find meaning in an unsatisfying job.

Work takes him to the remote seaside villa of an old friend, where, among an odd assortment of guests, he meets the eunuch sword-dancer Varazda. Enigmatic and beautiful but distinctly prickly, Varazda is the antithesis of the straightforward and serious Damiskos. Yet as they keep getting in each other's way at the villa, their mutual dislike is complicated by a spark of undeniable attraction.

Then the villa's guests begin to reveal their true characters and motives—no one here is what they seem—and Damiskos finds himself at the centre of a bizarre web of espionage, theft, and assassination. Varazda may need Damiskos's help, but not as much as Damiskos, finally awakening to a new sense of life and purpose, needs Varazda.

Sword Dance is the first book in the Sword Dance trilogy, an m/nb romance set in an imaginary ancient world, with murderous philosophy students, sex acts named after fruit, and love blossoming in the midst of mayhem.

Sword Dance

I read this book several years ago, and decided to go back to it. Sword Dance is a change of pace for anyone who loves gay romance mixed with history and mythology. Damiskos struggles to find purpose after losing his military life and gaining a permanent disability. Varazda comes across as thorny and has a mysterious background. Their chemistry feels natural, slowly building to sweet and believable.

What sets this book apart is how it blends romance with mythology and espionage, woven with a touch of humor. Clever surprises keep things interesting. The secondary characters add to the story without overshadowing the lead pair. Sword Dance offers a promise for more fun adventures to come.

#Review: Edge of Darkness by MA Church #MMRomance #Dragons #Fantasy

Sometimes the dragon gods make mistakes.

That's the best rationale Hudson can come up with. How else can he account for the fact that the one he's falling in love with is not his fated mate? Getting involved with someone he doesn't share a soul bond with could be devastating, but Hudson is willing to take the risk. Connie is his and nothing will stand in his way of having him.

#Review: Edge of Darkness by MA Church #MMRomance #Dragons #FantasySometimes the dragon gods might be more clever than anyone gives them credit for.

A sassy human stumbles into Hudson and Connie's life, upsetting their very existence. How can Hudson and Connie have a soul bond to Kit… but not each other? Are the Fates drunk? Or testing them? Dragons are possessive creatures, and that's before adding in one of them is a thousand-year-old royal in charge of the dragons of San DeLain.

Sometimes it's better not to question the dragon gods.

But things aren't always as they appear. Danger stalks the streets of San DeLain in the form of an old enemy once thought dead. What's real? What isn't? As Kit struggles with a nightmare from his past, Hudson and Connie try to figure out how to keep their very breakable human in one-piece and happy. Fate is a tricky, tricky thing, and sometimes? Well, sometimes Hudson has just gotta trust the dragon gods as the darkness edges closer.

Edge of Darkness

MA Church's book mixes fantasy and romance in a way that really hits the mark. Hudson is a dragon facing a bit of a dilemma because he's fallen for Connie, who isn't his destined partner. This sets off a chain of events that keeps things interesting. Hudson's willingness to go against the norms of dragon lore gives an exciting twist to their relationship.

The addition of Kit, an unexpected and quirky human, changes the dynamic in a big way. It's entertaining to see how Hudson deals with this new reality.

Church's writing makes the world of dragons feel real. The backstory adds depth without being overwhelming, and there's just enough tension to keep pages turning. Plus, the element of danger gives it an edge.

If you're into a light, engaging read that blends heart and fantasy, this book is worth checking out. The charming characters interact with sparkling humor and warmth. This is a fun escape with just the right amount of magic.
