The Antonello Brothers Science Fiction Romance series is Sci Fi from the sweeter side of the galaxy.
He didn't expect an alien to have such honor. He didn't expect to trust her. And he didn't expect to fall in love...

He didn't expect an alien to have such honor. He didn't expect to trust her. And he didn't expect to fall in love...Khyff snuggled deeper into the pillows. The slick coolness of the sheets soothed his skin. The quiet lulled him. "So nice to be home."

A steady thrumming sound vibrated through the pillows.

Khyff frowned, not opening his eyes. "What the--"

Something fuzzy laid itself across his mouth. He grabbed it with one hand, felt its length. Furry. Long. Skinny. This feels like a tail.

"Tail?" He opened his eyes.

A gray tabby cat meowed in his face.

"Aaack!" Khyff tumbled off the bed in the opposite direction and got to his feet.

The cat arched its back and hissed.

Khyff scrambled away backward. "Shoo! Go away! Shoo!" He made motions with both hands.

The cat jumped off the bed and padded, tail high and twitching, toward the partially open door. It paused and looked back before exiting.

Khyff rubbed his face. How'd a cat get in here? He went into the bathroom. The items on the shelf over the toilet looked out of place. Is this Senth and NarrAy's bathroom? Since when does mine have bath oil, perfume, and--he leaned closer--feminine hygiene products?

"This room's pink. I don't have a pink room in my apartment." Or a round shower stall and twin sinks. Or pink soaps shaped like cats. Cats? I hate cats. He gulped. "Where am I?"

His nudity suddenly became an issue. He grabbed a fluffy pink towel off the bar and wrapped it around his waist before peeking into the bedroom. Still alone. Good.

His denim pants lay folded on a chair with his slip-on shoes beneath it. No socks or underwear. He dressed. No shirt in sight. Which one was I wearing?

Pink flowers decorated the covers on the bed. The dresser top held a silver brush and mirror set.

"I went home with some woman last night?" He shoved a hand through his hair. "Smackers, I must have been sotted. How'd I even let her touch me?"

On the verge of freeing his brother from a cruel master, Senth, an all party-fun-and-games thief, must take on the hardest assignment of his life: stealing from the Empress.

To make matters worse, he has no choice about working with a by-the-book rebel captain, a genetically advanced woman whose addictive pheromones could enhance his mission or crumble it into dust with a single siren kiss.

When the unthinkable happens and the Empress kidnaps his brother, Senth must put aside his love of play and buckle down or his brother will end up with a far worse master, Senth will be guilty of treason, and he'll lose the love of his life -- forever.

When a playful half-cat thief meets an enhanced-human by-the-book captain, do opposites attract? Oh, mercy!

Excerpt from At the Mercy of Her Pleasure

A hovercar and driver met them at the curb, and the smooth trip along Conqueror's March Boulevard brought them down through Tarth City Park, past the massive Destine Pietan Stadium, and into the Imperial Business District. They drove into the shadow of the Nizamrak Building, which rose above the city like a dark sentinel.

Senth craned his neck looking up as they passed it, and then sat back, scowling.

Broxus put down his reader. "Problem?"

Brushing off his cloak, Senth shook his head.

NarrAy observed the interchange without comment, recalling that Senth's daddy dearest owned the building.

Once they reached the Royal District, the car pulled up to the front of the luxurious Royal Arms Hotel. Shaped like a giant arrow being driven into the ground, it displayed Tyran engineering at its finest. Like their suite on the ship, the empire-class suite at the top sported a common living area and four bedrooms with private baths.

NarrAy's corner room had a breathtaking view of vast Tarth City, showcase of the empire. Impossibly tall spires drove through the clouds. Steady shuttle traffic climbed into the sky to the west, near the starport. The wide swath of Tarth City Park divided the metropolis in half all the way to the horizon, and the Cyr de Typhin River meandered through the center, its bright blue water glinting in the sun.

She directed her bagbot to its place against the wall. While it deployed into closet mode, she went back to the common area and waited in a wingback chair for the others.

A few minutes later, a sock-footed Senth went sliding past her on the dark wood floor. Arms out for balance and holding a shoe in each hand, he slammed up against the wall and laughed.

He tossed the shoes on the floor and shoved his feet into them before launching himself across the back of the burgundy leather sofa. And kept going, sliding right off its slick surface and onto the floor.

Senth jumped to his feet and dusted himself off, noticed her, and turned bright red. "I...um...I was getting..." He gestured toward his room and hit the large glass lamp next to him. Senth made a grab for it, righted the shade, and set the lamp back on the table. He stepped back and stumbled over a potted palm. He danced sideways, tripping over his own feet.

Brox entered, and Senth ran right into him. Brox steadied him.

"Sorry!" Senth jerked back.

NarrAy chewed the inside of her cheek, fighting not to laugh.

Her security lieutenant brushed himself off. "You don't have much Kin blood, do you?"

"What?" Senth flipped back his long hair. "I'm half Kin."

Brox rubbed his chin. "Most Kin are more -- graceful."

A flush of color darkened Senth's cheeks.

NarrAy covered her mouth, all but choking.

Encie popped into the room, a weapon out as she checked it. "Everybody ready?"

"I'll get my cloak." Senth fled toward his room.

Excerpt from Bro

The prequel to the Antonello Brothers Science Fiction Romance series, Bro is Sci Fi from the sweeter side of the galaxy.
When you can make yourself invisible, you reveal invisible truth...

Bro, the Antonello Brothers Prequel by Kayelle Allen

Senth Antonello had attended classes at the Thieves' Guild Academy every day since he was what? Three? Yet the looming entrance to the exclusive Advanced Level access that he'd more than earned stood empty, while he skulked in the shadows like he hadn't.
Plunging through that door always felt like he was flying into a beehive while sporting hornet wings.
Enough of this.
He ought to zip up there and let idBot scan him.
He took two decisive steps forward, then pivoted and took five steps back.
"Come on, Senth," he berated himself. "Go for it. Now." He turned around and faced the entrance. "This time will be different. You can do this. Just go in there."
But did he?
No.
And why was that?
Because there were times being the best got you nothing but hated and looking like a kid got you nothing but disrespect. Being the adopted son of a former grand master had distinct perks, true. It got him in ahead of others, but then that was part of the problem, wasn't it?
Daddy had clout. Daddy belonged. People feared Daddy, for good reason.
Nobody feared a clawless halfbreed who looked twelve when he was eighteen.
"I will do this. The time to act is now." He stepped up and let the automated idBot system scan him.
"Welcome, Blue Shadow," idBot's smooth robotic voice cooed. "Cleared for Advanced Level." The door unsealed.
Why couldn't people treat him like that machine? Senth released the tension in his shoulders, and rolled his head to soothe his neck.
Maybe today would be different.
Maybe undergrads would respect him for his level.
Maybe his dad would ask him how he was doing instead of going behind his back to the Grand Master.
Maybe nobody'd meow when he entered the room.
Maybe nobody'd go, "Here, kitty, kitty!"
Oh, and maybe the Empress would eliminate taxes, and while she was at it, free all the slaves. Because, sure. That could happen.
Inside, down the first hallway, monolithic carved wooden doors of the Great Hall stood open. The pickup line for upgraded cloaks wound down the stairs and then back and forth across the cavernous hall like one of those rides at Planet Fun.
Voices. Noise. Din. A hive of thieves anxious to score.
No sound suppression in the empire could mute the hum careening off these stone walls. Not today. Not with the first cloak upgrade in ten years minutes from release.
He took one last, sole-dragging step, entered the hall, and made straight for the grand staircase.
The entire queue of lower-level thieves craned their necks at whoever had entered. Their low buzz faded from front to back, and what do you know? Right on cue, a chorus of meows rose from the anonymous safety of the back row.
Senth halted and snapped his head in that direction, but the sound cut off.
No one in view so much as cracked a smile.
He tossed them a lazy salute and turned back toward the stairs. The conversational drone kicked right back in. After all, no one important had entered. Just the halfbreed.

Done. Now comes the Hard Part #AmWriting #SciFi #MFRWhooks

Done! I finished A Stolen Heart on 3/1/20! Release date announced soon. Now comes the hard part. Editing. Today's excerpt is a scene between two ex-lovers, one of whom mistakenly thinks the other wants to get back together.

Done does not equal "teasing"

In this scene from A Stolen Heart, Luc Saint-Cyr is dealing with his immortal ex. Those who have read about Pietas in other stories already know he's brilliant, gorgeous, and confident to the max. He's also half a smidgen from being a full-blown narcissist.

He adores Luc, who broke up with him thousands of years ago, but Pietas continually holds out hope for a return. Luc has retreated to a dressing room to calm down after an incident in which Pietas completely misread Luc's intentions, with disastrous results.

[scene subject to editing]
A note: Pietas is severely claustrophobic, and he always calls Luc "Cyken,"  his "immortal" name.

DONE. D. O. N. E.

How long Luc stood there, clutching the mangled tie, he did not know. He forced in deep breaths, held them and released, over and over, until self-loathing inundated his shame. He'd put Pietas through more than a year of hell. Luc might not have locked him into the coffin-like pod that imprisoned him, but his betrayal forged every bolt that trapped his king inside. It was his fault Pietas could barely force himself to open a closet or shut a door.

"Over the man but duty-bound to serve the king." Luc stomped over to the recycler, opened the lid, and flung the tie into it. He dragged a hand through his hair. "I hate my life."

He had Nikko to think about. He must go out. Celebrate the graduation. He must do this. From a drawer, he withdrew another tie and fastened it.

A timid knock sounded.

He stood there a moment, took one step toward the door, but halted. What if it was the child?

"Cyken?" Pietas called out.

Luc shook his head. Oh to be able to portal out of there.

"I know you're in there. I can hear you breathing. I upset you. Let me in."

Why? To take another shot at infuriating him? "Go away."

"Let me talk to you."

"Go away."

"But, if you would just--"

"No!" Luc brought up a fist, but forced himself to set it--gently--against the door. "Go. Away."

"Cyken. Talk to me."

He yanked open the door.

Pietas jerked back.

"Go away. We are done." Refusing to take so much as one step closer, Luc stabbed a finger at the ground. "Get that through your head. We are over. D-O-N-E. Done. Finished. Go. Away."

After clearing his throat, Pietas folded his hands before him, hesitant in his movements. "I crossed a line." From the man's expression, he sought confirmation.

"You didn't even know, did you?" Luc threw up one hand. "I swear, you have the sensitivity of lava. You push your way forward and shove aside anything that gets in your path. Well I'm not budging."

"Technically, lava burns through things, so--"

Seething, Luc slammed the door, shoved his back against it and clenched both fists. He sucked in a shallow breath. "Serve the mission," he murmured. "Serve the mission."

"Cyken." Less timid knock this time. "That lava comment was stupid. I shouldn't have said that."

"You think!" No. Never engage an enemy on his terms. You didn't fight a word battle with a pedantic narcissistic.

"Can you hear me?" Another knock. A pause. "Cyken? Are you still in there?"

Silence. Never give an enemy what he expects.

Pietas heaved an overly dramatic sigh. "Stupid question. You don't have a portal. There's no other door in there." Quiet. "Wait. Is there?"

The sound of footsteps came to him. There was another door, but it led to the bathroom which then led back to the bedroom. No escape there.

More silence. Footsteps back.

Would the man never give up? Luc jammed his fingers against his brow.

Another knock. "Cyken, come out. Please? Talk to me. I'm sorry."

With a resigned sigh, he tilted back his head. This man was persistence personified. Luc opened the door. Stood there. Said nothing.

"Thank you for opening the door."

He made no response.

"You were right." Pietas bit his lips, studying the carpet. Peeking back up, he rubbed the back of his neck. "I was insensitive. I know what I did was stupid, because it hurt you, and I didn't mean to do that. I thought you were teasing. You know, the way we used to when we were lovers, and you'd say no, and I'd--" He broke off, started a new sentence, then another, but completed neither of them.

Luc made no attempt to rescue him.

"I'm sorry," the man said finally. "I was a fool."

"Don't expect me to contradict you."

After showing surprise, Pietas twitched one shoulder. "I suppose I deserved that."

Crossing his arms, Luc remained silent.

"I wasn't trying to force myself on you. Please believe that." A look of such pain crossed his king's face that Luc softened toward him. "Cyken, I would never do that. I wouldn't violate your agency. I wouldn't do that to anyone, even my worst enemy. Certainly not to someone I love."

Luc unfolded his arms. "I believe you."

Pietas looked at him, hopeful.

"But you went too far. When someone says stop, you stop. You don't keep pushing!"

"I was stupid." He held up both hands. "I've missed you so much. I saw what I wanted to see, not what was real. I'm sorry."

Luc gave a single nod.

Pietas took another step back. "Come out of there."

"No."

"All right." Pietas studied the room as if searching for written words. "Then... Can I-- May I-- Will you let me come in?"

"You want to come inside a small room like this?"

Pietas peered around Luc, gave a fine shudder. "No," he admitted, "but I want to be where you are."

Find a kid. That's it? Right... #Excerpt from A Stolen Heart by Kayelle Allen #SciFi #MFRWhooks

When Luc is asked to locate a child, he knows he's missing something.  After all, this is the master of misdirection he's talking to: Pietas. Find a kid. Right...

Just find a kid? That's it?

In this scene, Luc is getting instructions from Pietas, the king.

Meanwhile, the king has brought out his panther and is petting the animal. It's far from tame, and although Luc is quite familiar with it, he's not crazy about being this close.

But then Pietas drops a bombshell.

A Stolen Heart

"Locate the girl." Pietas stroked the panther. "Once you tell me where she is, you'll be free. I don't need you to rescue her. Just inform me."

"I see." Luc did not. "Find this ten year-old missing girl. Tell you where she is. That's it."

"Yes. Then after your Deshai graduates, you can move to Tarth and start that building you've been planning."

"Hmm." This was far too easy. Obviously, he'd missed something. Mentally, Luc walked back through the last bits of conversation. "To clarify, you don't want me to bring her to you. You want me to find her and tell you where she is."

"Asked and answered." Pietas studied him. "Why is this so hard for you? Find her. Tell me. Not difficult. But it is urgent."

"What's so important about her?"

Pietas kissed the panther on the nose. "It's not her so much as her parents. If we find her and then take her to them, we'll have more influence."

Now they were getting somewhere. "And who are they?"

"My sister told you about the FTA, didn't she?"

"FTA." Acronyms filled his world, but this one? New to him. Why did that earlier dread raise its ugly head again? He'd probably be better off not knowing, but Pietas seemed to be waiting for an answer. "Not a word. What is it?"

"She didn't?" Pietas frowned. "Oh, I thought... Never mind." He tugged on the panther's ears. "The FTA is the Forgotten Technologies Arena."

"Forgotten by whom?"

"The ancients. It's secret tech. Forbidden."

"Forbidden." The headache he'd faced for the last hour spiked through his brain. He rubbed his temples. Why him? Why now? "Pietas..."

"Oh, will you stop worrying?" The man looked over at him. "No one's going to get sucked into a wormhole this time."

Luc forced himself to take a deep breath and let it all the way out. "That's what you said the last time."
