Void Soldier by Logan Shields #SciFiBooks #MilSF #MilitarySciFiEarth's most elite space force.

Perfectly trained. Completely expendable. Endlessly reusable.

In a world where recruits disappear and assets return, humanity is measured in memories kept. Jack Rourke has nothing left in his dying rust-belt town except a fractured family and a future going nowhere.

When a mysterious government program offers escape, he takes it—only to discover he's not being trained, but transformed.

Stripped of his name, assigned a number, and subjected to brutal conditioning on an orbital station, Jack realizes this isn't military recruitment—it's human processing.

As the system methodically erases his identity, Jack forms an alliance with fellow recruit Connor, preserving fragments of themselves through whispered memories in the dark.

But when the final test comes—a deadly seven-day survival gauntlet on an airless asteroid—Jack must decide: become the perfect asset they demand, or hold onto the humanity they're determined to erase.

Some soldiers are made. Others are unmade.

Void Soldier by Logan Shields

In a time when Earth's landscapes have crumbled under the weight of neglect, those left behind cling to the edge of despair. Jack Rourke emerges from one such place, a rust-belt town where echoes of former lives linger in the air and hope has become a distant memory. He possesses only the fragments of a fractured family and a life that drifts aimlessly toward oblivion. The government recruits young men and women, promising a chance at a brighter future, yet these offers come with hidden costs.

When Jack takes the opportunity to join a program he does not fully understand, he steps into a world stripped of individuality. Within the sterile confines of an orbital training station, recruits become mere numbers, their pasts erased by the relentless machine of military ambition. Each moment on the station is a fight against the mechanism designed to mold them into perfect soldiers, devoid of emotion, driven only by obedience and efficiency.

Within this system, Jack discovers a kindred spirit in Connor, another recruit desperately holding onto memories that the program seeks to obliterate. Their whispers in the darkness become a lifeline, an anchor against the storm of transformation they face. But as the gauntlet approaches—an unforgiving test that requires total submission to the forces stripping away their identities—Jack must confront his reality.

Every choice becomes a conflict between survival and the instinct to retain his humanity, a tension that rises with each passing day. In the military's ruthless vision, some soldiers are crafted from the raw material of men, while others are reduced to whispers of who they once were.

#Review: Gabriel's Storm by Sue Brown #MMRomance #SuspenseA storm shattered Gabriel's heart. A second storm offers him another chance. Will he ever love again or is he too broken to accept Sam's love?

As he does every day, Gabriel stands vigil on the cliffs, lost in the memories of his dead family. But as another storm rolls in, Gabriel sees a boat sinking beneath the huge waves. Will he get to the boat in time to save anyone trapped?

Sam wakes to discover he's been rescued from a storm by a brooding, handsome stranger with a tragic past. He remembers nothing except the fear that stalks him every time he closes his eyes.

Gabriel finds himself unwillingly attracted to his houseguest, and Sam just wants to take away the pain in the eyes of the lonely widower.

But first they need to find out who Sam is and why he's having nightmares. Can Gabriel and Sam save each other and find a second chance at love?

A heartwarming tale of love and healing with a taste of suspense.

Gabriel's Storm

This book pulled me in with a mix of romance and a bit of mystery. The way Sam and Gabriel come together feels natural, not forced, and their growing connection unfolds in a way that kept me interested. The setting made the entire story realistic. Sam and Gabriel were relatable, especially as they worked through individual struggles and fears.

There’s enough tension to keep the pages turning without overshadowing the romance. The pacing and story strike a good balance between emotional and lighter scenes. This story felt sincere and was easy to get lost in. If you’re into gay romance with a hint of suspense and a focus on healing, give this one a shot.

Desperate Whispers Spoken in Darkness #DarkFantasy #Archaeology #MFRWhooks

The Last Vhalgenn: Colonies of Man #DarkFantasy #Mythology #Archaeology

In the shadows of war and under the weight of royal secrets, a single moment changes destiny. As the Queen of Qarth and Kellindahr lies in a fragile state, a simple request shatters the soft veneer of tranquility, leaving Raik caught in a web of loyalty and fear for what the future may hold.

From Chapter Two:

The Last Vhalgenn: Colonies of Man by Kayelle Allen #SciFi #Fantasy #RomanceAt midnight, I woke with a church bell chiming in the distance. I was sitting on a stone floor with Orix's head on my lap. Cyrus stooped beside me, a scarecrow in brocade, hair sticking out of his nightcap like straw spun of pure silver.

"Brought ye some hot cider." He pressed an earthen mug into my hand. While I drank, he wrapped my shoulders with a heavy cloak, a similar one already thrown over Orix. "Not so chilled now, eh?" His widely spaced teeth sparkled in a crooked smile. "Good. Now you go yonder and rest." He nodded toward a pallet by the door. "I'll sit with him."

He knew I wouldn't argue—it would wake Orix—and managed to slide a hand under our sovereign's head while I slid out from beneath him. I made use of the water closet hidden in the wall and then stretched out on the pallet. I fell deep into exhausted sleep.

One of Dahr's women shook me awake later and had to tell me twice that the queen had summoned me before I would believe it. Cyrus, asleep sitting up, did not see me leave. Feet dragging, knuckling my eyes, I followed the woman into the queen's bedchamber.

Dahr lay flat, legs raised with a pile of pillows. Her ashen face was bleak. Grim exhaustion tugged at the corners of her mouth. Dahr's Lady in Waiting touched the queen's hand and Dahr's eyes fluttered open. After a struggle, she focused on me.

Recognition replaced the glazed dazzle of sleep and she arched her brows at her Lady. The woman dropped a polite curtsey and left, shooing out several other women in the room. Kellindahrii, judging by their clothes.

"Please." Dahr whispered. "Sit."

I sat on a stool next to the bed, wincing at its hardness on my still-sore rear. A yawn fought for possession of my mouth.

She touched my arm. "How's Orix?"

"Worried. He's sleeping outside. Shall I get him?"

"No!" She clutched my rough hand with her dainty one; eyes squeezed shut, tears darkening her lashes.

"Are you in pain? Shall I call the doctors?"

She rocked her head back and forth, lips bitten together.

I patted her hand, smarting with my own uselessness. A soldier can dress an honest battle wound and dress it with herbs, grease, and bandages. But to watch a frail woman suffer, bleeding senselessly, dying a tiny piece at a time... How could I even offer comfort? If she died... I refused to think of that. Or of where Orix would look for consolation.

She tightened her grip on my hand, slim fingers digging into my skin. "Promise me."

I leaned closer, straining to hear, afraid of what she was about to say. I sensed she was waiting for me to speak. "Promise what, Your Majesty?"

"Promise me. First."

The soldier in me prompted obedience, but the part of me schooled to love Orix screamed warnings. I compromised. "So long as it violates no law, nor any oath I've sworn to Qarth or Kellindahr, I'll swear it."

She let out a long sigh, and relaxed her grip. For a moment I thought she slept.

"Take him," she whispered. "Take him home."

"Who? You mean Orix?" I went down on one knee, my ear close to her mouth, but I missed her next words. "I don't understand. Are you..."

"Him." Her voice was as weak as a third echo. "Him. Take him home." She moved her other hand, revealing a bundled babe hidden beside her.

I know my mouth dropped open. I heard my own choked gasp as I staggered to my feet.

The Queen of Qarth and Kellindahr had given birth and no one had called the King? As if she heard my thoughts, she clutched my robe.

"Don't tell him, Raik! Please don't! Don't call Orix in here!"

Her desperation triggered something deep within me, instinct perhaps. It rose up like panic or dread, cutting off my ability to speak. There could only be one reason—something amiss with the babe.

#Review: Fae for Pay by Meghan Maslow #MMRomance #UrbanFantasy #Shifters

#Review: Fae for Pay by Meghan Maslow #MMRomance #UrbanFantasy #Shifters

#Review: Fae for Pay by Meghan Maslow #MMRomance #UrbanFantasy #ShiftersA hot AF wolf who could make me howl all night long. A persistent gold coin with dubious intentions. And a magical whammy no one saw coming.

Hello, gentle reader (or online stalker). My name is Teremie—yes, it's a T, not a J, thanks for asking—Summers. Maybe you've seen me on Only Fae. I play the sexpot elf of your dreams.

Through a bizarre turn of events, I end up cast as an elf in an upcoming epic fantasy film—even though my acting skills are mainly of the "fae for pay" online variety.

My co-star is the once-cute-teen-star, turned smokin' hot, all grown up, wolf-shifter Kade Savage. He's gentle, honorable, and he doesn't care about my past mistakes.

All great, right? Well...there are a couple of teensy tiny roadblocks to my happily-ever-after. See, wolves don't date non-wolves. It's a thing. And, oh, yeah, he's straight. Which is fine. I'm perfectly okay with it. My track record is so poor that I might as well be running backward. So, it's a little crush. What's the harm?

But before long I catch him giving me big-bad-wolf eyes when he thinks I'm not looking. His low, growly voice makes my heart beat a little faster and sends tingles down my spine and on a one-way trip to my nether regions. Just when the UST between us is about to erupt, we end up in a fantasy scene so real it would make Peter Jackson jealous. What in the Lord of the Rings alternate dimension is this?! We have to rely on each other—and a contrary magical coin—to show us that "home" isn't a place so much as where the heart is.

Fae for Pay

Fae for Pay by Meghan Maslow is a fun and refreshing read that doesn't take itself too seriously. Teremie's voice feels real and easy to connect with, and the mix of fantasy with a modern setting keeps things interesting.

Kade's character adds a superb contrast, and their chemistry sneaks up on you in a way that feels natural. The story has its share of sweet and awkward moments that make the characters feel genuine, not just perfect heroes.

That love can come from unexpected places comes across without being overly cheesy or predictable. Plus, the fantasy elements add just the right amount of magic to spice things up without overwhelming the romance.

I loved this book. It blends humor, fantasy, and romance in a way that's easy to enjoy. This is one gay romance with a delightfully playful twist.

Fae for Pay is a part of the multi-author series, Fortune Favors the Fae. From spicy to sweet, zany romps to epic adventures, there's something for everyone in this mystical series. Discover destiny and true love, and follow the coin on its fickle journey to the next world and a new magical adventure.

#Review: The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae by Michele Notaro #MMRomance #UrbanFantasyCall it fate, call it luck, but when a powerful wolf shifter walks into my life, everything changes.

Bel

I've made some stupid decisions in my life, and one in particular keeps coming back to haunt me. When I keep running into a handsome stranger, I know I should push him away, if only to keep him safe from my mess, keep him safe from me. But something inside of me—my heart, my magic, or my soul—keeps pushing me toward him, offering to make all my secret dreams come true. And I don't know how to stay away.

Remi

When I travel across the world to open a new business—and get away from my overbearing family—the last thing I ever expect is to find the most beautiful and alluring fae I've ever met. I'm drawn to him, and I'm pretty sure if he lets his guard down, he'll admit he's drawn to me too. All I want to do is pull Bel into my arms and protect him from whatever he's hiding. But he's skittish and suspicious, and I just want to prove to him that he can trust me.

Fate, and a bit of luck, brought us together, and I'm not going to let it or anything else tear us apart.

The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae

This was such a fun read! The mix of wolf shifters and fae, and the way Bel and Remi interact, was easy to get into right from the start. Bel's struggles and the caution he carries adds layers to his character, and Remi's determination to connect felt solid. The story flows without dragging, so it was easy to pick up and hard to put down. The chemistry between these two is hot, and the pace kept the story moving. Light, but with a bit of heart, and some wonderful paranormal / fantasy elements. Recommended.

The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae is a part of the multi-author series, Fortune Favors the Fae. This is book 2. I'm reviewing book 8, Fae for Pay, tomorrow. What can I say? I'm a sucker for books with blond guys on the cover.

From spicy to sweet, zany romps to epic adventures, there's something for everyone in this mystical series. Discover destiny and true love and follow the coin on its fickle journey to the next world and a new magical adventure.

#Review: Damaged Goods by Susan Mac Nicol #MMRomance #HotReadTouched by tragedy, love is an elusive dream never to be realised by eighteen-year-old Jax Grady—until he discovers his secret admirer and receives the sweetest gift he could ever desire.

Tragedy and horror shaped Jackson Grady's life, leaving him orphaned and scarred. At eighteen he's ready to claim his future, but who could love his disfigured face and damaged soul? Definitely not a big, burly, beautiful Irish Traveller who is entirely the stuff of dreams.

Dare Rowan didn't mean to become obsessed with the blue-eyed man he first saw across a field, but that porcelain skin and innocent air demanded another meeting. Jax has the face of a wounded angel, and the rest of the young man is as heart-breakingly perfect.

Jax is beautiful in every way and teaching him about love and life will be something Dare will embrace. Like unwrapping and savouring the candy at the shop where he works, Dare will show this young man everything Jax desired but never thought he'd have, and take Jax to new highs while he holds him through the lows. Between them, they’ll find out just how sweet life can be.

Damaged Goods

This novel by Susan Mac Nicol was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed spending time with Jax and Dare as their relationship grew. Jax, dealing with past trauma and scars, was likable and relatable without being overly dramatic. Dare also came across as a caring guy who saw beyond looks and helped Jax heal emotionally.

The chemistry between these two men felt realistic and sweet, and it was refreshing to read a romance that stayed down-to-earth. The author tackled sensitive topics carefully, never making the story feel too heavy or sad. I particularly liked how gentle and supportive Dare was throughout.

Damaged Goods left me feeling satisfied, optimistic, and hopeful. It was an enjoyable read that made me smile. If you like thoughtful and tender romances mixed with just the right changes of mood, give this book a try.

Forbid My Heart – Free inside Surrender Love #MMRomance #SciFiRomance #FreeBook

Free bonus story — no signup requiredIn this scene from Forbid My Heart, Izzorah has just had a "discussion" with Luc about a horse named Purkinje. That led to Luc promising to take him back to his homeworld for a visit. But Izzorah is dead set against going. As a reminder, Izzorah is a Kin, a feline humanoid with catlike ears and eyes, fangs, and claws beneath human nails. The ability to interpret changing emotions by their scent is literally his superpower.

Thank you

Izzorah sat opposite Luc, hand on Luc's heart, and breathed in the varying scents of his lover. Luc's will stood between them like a living creature, solid as the walls around them. He might mean every word he said. He might be able to kill the Falehla tzesar. But keeping them safe on Felidae?

How could anyone do that?

Izzorah remained silent. He would not dishonor his lover by arguing the point. He hadn't won agreement about not going home, but he could deal with that later. He would have to approach the subject from a different angle.

He lowered his ears and set them outward, showing submission instead of willfulness.

Luc smiled, and his scent showed he thought he'd won.

Springing forward, Izzorah grabbed him and then flattened Luc against the bed. He clamped his fangs on the tip of his lover's chin.

A tart spark of unease scented the air. "Um...Rah?"

Purring in response, Izzorah kept his teeth against Luc's skin.

"This is a good bite?" Luc's mixed scent revealed curiosity.

Izzorah released him and sat astride Luc's hips. "Ehh nim shree."

"Ah. A love bite." Luc reached up and brushed back a lock of Izzorah's hair. "You were being playful."

Holding Luc's gaze, Izzorah bent forward and lightly nipped Luc's lower lip, nibbled the upper one, and then scraped his fangs across the tip of Luc's nose. He kissed it, then moved back to hover above his mouth, their gazes still linked. "I was bite-thanking you."

"You're welcome." Luc rubbed one of Izzorah's ears between fingers and thumb, and Izzorah leaned into the touch. "What did I do to deserve that kind of thanking? Because I definitely want to do it again."

"You listened to me. I was missing Purkinje, and you helped me feel better."

"I'll always listen. I'm sorry about your horse, love. Buying you another horse might not help, because it wouldn't be Purkinje, but maybe we..." Luc's voice trailed off as Izzorah slid claws through Luc's curls. Luc sighed in pleasure, and sank against the bed as if melting into it. "Mmm. I like it when you use your claws like that."

"Good. I like touching you." Izzorah took a small lick across Luc's lower lip, gave another gentle nip, and then licked him again. "I think you need to be thanked some more so you know how much I appreciate you. Maybe I should tongue-thank you too." The delicious scent of warm brown sugar and melting butter revealed Luc's rising desire. "You taste of salt, sex, and male." He purred, placing his mouth close to Luc's ear. "I'm going to bite-thank and tongue-thank you all over."

Reconstructing His Heart by AD Ellis #MMRomance #ReadWithPride #AuthorsAgainstBookBansThe funeral home was packed. All the townsfolk coming out to pay their respects and say a final goodbye to one of the good ones.

Blah, blah, blah.

Jamming their noses up my dad's ass and trying to move up the business ladder even after his death was more like it.

With about twenty minutes left in the scheduled viewing time, all I wanted was to sleep. I still had to get through the funeral the next day, but my brain was near shutdown mode, and I wasn't sure I could talk to one more person.

All these people.

They didn't know him.

They didn't know me.

If they'd known either of us, they sure wouldn't be passing on their condolences.

The end of the line was near and sweet relief loomed on the horizon.

That's when I saw him.

The top supervisor on Larson Construction's A-Crew.

Oh god.

He looked different in his suit and tie.

Damn good.

But if he was there to spew a bunch of niceties about my dad, I'd lose it.

What was he doing at my dad's viewing?

#Review: Royals: A Gay M/M Bodyguard Romance by JV Speyer #MMRomance #Thriller #BodyguardRomance

Two uncles from vastly different worlds. One orphaned child. Will a conspiracy that bridges an ocean somehow build a family, or will state secrets keep Eric and Dan apart forever?

#Review: Royals: A Gay M/M Bodyguard Romance by JV Speyer #MMRomance #Thriller #BodyguardRomanceEric is a genius. He's a professor of environmental studies at an Ivy League university, an inventor, and one of the most respected scientists in his field. He doesn't think about his birth family much, and the feeling is mutual – or he thinks it is, until a call from a local hospital throws his carefully ordered world into chaos.

Dan has seen and done a lot in his time as an Army Ranger. Thrown into civilian life by an injury, he's happy to work for Five Star Security doing what he does best – until he gets a call from his hometown with devastating news.

His beloved older brother, Ben, has been killed in a car accident, along with his bride, Selene. Custody of their amazing four-year-old daughter has been left not to Dan, with whom all three were close, but to Selene's younger half-brother, Eric – a man Dan has never met and who didn't bother showing up for the wedding. Dan is devastated. Finding Eric to be handsome and kind, if reserved, doesn't help. Selene was wonderful, but her whole family was a pack of vipers. Eric can't be any different, can he?

It doesn't take long for Dan's boss to figure out why Selene and Ben would leave Ada in Eric's custody. Selene was a member of the royal family of Corvia, and Eric has managed to avoid the spotlight for the past decade and more. As the investigation into the car wreck shows it was no accident, Dan and Eric must join forces to keep their shared niece safe. But can they keep their hearts safe from each other – especially when old secrets come to light that threaten their newfound love?

Royals is the second book in the Bodyguards M/M contemporary romance series. If you like tortured heroes, intense predicaments, and steamy affairs, then this one is for you!

Royals: A Gay M/M Bodyguard Romance

Royals weaves the lives of two characters amidst a backdrop of mystery and family dynamics. Eric, an environmental studies professor, finds his world turned upside down when thrust into a guardianship role after a tragedy. This opens a door to an unfamiliar realm, forcing Eric to confront his past and the family he thought he had left behind.

Dan, a former Army Ranger dealing with loss, brings emotional depth to the story. His initial skepticism towards Eric is understandable, but their shared love for Dan's niece Ada fosters a unique bond that evolves throughout the story. The chemistry between Eric and Dan reveals each man's vulnerability as they navigate through grief, loyalty, and trust.

The intrigue surrounding Selene's death adds a new layer to the plot, creating suspense, and the pacing contributes to character development alongside the unfolding mystery. The blend of romance and thriller elements makes Royals an engaging read. This book explores the fabric of family and the transformative power of love, and is a worthwhile addition to the genre.

I enjoyed seeing this couple work together to create a safe space for their niece. The story had just the right amount of sizzle. Recommended if you like MM romance.
