Pietas ap Lorectic aka Bringer of Chaos, Immortal King
For twelve thousand years, Pietas kept those he loved just beyond arm's reach. Not because he feared them, but because he feared himself. He welcomed loyalty, rewarded service, and inspired devotion. Love was different. Love came close enough to wound. He could carry the weight of an empire. What he could not bear was the thought of becoming the reason someone he loved suffered.
Favored description: Pietas never has to seize command. People hand it to him as if it were the only logical choice.

Dessy ap Lorectic aka Rheyn Destoiya, Empress of the Tarthian Empire
Dessy’s greatest gift is often considered strategy. Those who know her best understand it as persistence. Dessy simply refuses to quit.
While her brother Pietas commands attention by his very presence, Dessy shapes events long before she enters the room. By the time she arrives, the people, the politics, and even the budget are already moving according to plans she set in motion months before.
Favored description: Dessy rarely needs to command a room. She has already commanded the circumstances.
Favored quote: If the goal was to protect myself I would stay comfortably at home. But my goal is to protect the Tarthian Empire. So each day, I put on my armor and go where duty requires.
Archivist’s Notes: Reports describing her as "quiet" should not be interpreted as "easy to ignore." History contains several expensive examples. - JA
Luc Saint-Cyr aka Cyken • The General • The Harbinger
Known throughout the Empire as the Harbinger and referred to by Pietas as Cyken, he is a man who has stood beside the Immortal King for millennia. The only individual ever to hold the rank of General under Pietas, Cyken commands the Soomus Bellum and serves as the Immortal King's oldest friend, most trusted advisor, and supreme military commander.
In the Tarthian Empire, he is Luc Saint-Cyr, aka the Harbinger,

Meet the Archivists
This note is for those curious to meet the archivists who make these artifacts possible. Initials appearing throughout the Imperial Archives identify the individual responsible for compiling, maintaining, or annotating a particular record.
The position of Imperial Historian traditionally falls to an immortal who has completed a round of Peril and awaits further assignment. While most serve for approximately two years, some appointments have lasted as long as one hundred and three.
The current Historian, Joss Avaton, accepted the position as a permanent appointment to preserve, expand, and update the historical record.

Historian Emeritus, Thieves' Guild Arcane Level thief aka Silverbane
Responsible for recording Guild records as they pertain to immortal members. Recorder of details of current lives to aid Chosen in preparing for the future lives of their patrons.
Imperial Historian
Interprets known facts with the perspective—and occasional affection—earned through long association with nearly everyone in the Empire.
Empress of the Tarthian Empire
Occasionally appends corrections to the public record. The Imperial Archivists strongly recommend accepting these revisions without debate.
President, Chosen Council
Practical by nature. Less interested in history than in ensuring readers survive long enough to appreciate it.
Personal Attendant to Pietas
Clinical, precise, and unfailingly accurate. Uurah is responsible for documenting the Immortal King's records because Pietas rarely remains in one place long enough to finish an interview—and generally insists he has more important things to do. When Pietas requests an update to the Histories, Uurah records it with the initials UQ.
