In a few of these photos, I have lightly added a bit of turquoise to the eyes to match the character. But you won't find heavy airbrushing or major touch ups. Except for the hair, this is what Nik really looks like. Yes, he's that gorgeous in real life. He darkened his eyebrows so they would stand out. Pietas has dark eyebrows and lashes, but white-blond hair.
Some of these images, or the nearly 700 like them, will be used for book covers, banners, and videos. I will base a new series on that period of his life.
It is surreal to see the character who's lived solely in your imagination live and breathe and walk around quite independently of you. How many authors get to experience that?
Each time I open one of these images I find some detail I hadn't noticed, or see an expression that makes me want to write a scene based on it. Cosplay is probably one of the best tools to beat writer's block I have ever used.
The armor, weapons, and red patch (We Are War) were designed by digital weaponsmith Nano-Core exclusively for this cosplay. The patch is based on a sketch by my friend, Lisa Lowe, who inspired and encouraged me to ask Nik to cosplay this character.
Pietas began life as a soldier when he was still a teenager. More of his story is revealed in the Bringer of Chaos series and he is a major character in books set in the Tarthian Empire, such as the Antonello Brothers.
My thanks to Nik Nitsvetov and his photographer (who is a master of light and shadow). Like Nik, By_Cosphoto lives in Russia. They make an incredible team!
