New Mjuka, a Terraformer's Dream World

New Mjuka is undergoing several stages of terraforming. The mountain range visible in the upper right section of the planet's image are some of the highest in the empire.

The Terraformers Circle of Fellowship hosted parties on every terraformed world to celebrate the first snow on New Mjuka. It fell in the mountains.

Engineers planning habdrills similar to those on Sanity IV. Until a complete atmosphere has been formed, workers on New Mjuka will remain either inside the domed cities, or wear habsuits similar to the ones worn by terraformer technicians.

The Terraformer's Circle of Fellowship created living conditions on New Mjuka that were patterned after Mjuka.

Note the symbols on the technicians' uniforms. The upward facing arrows and rocket on the helmet represent the Terraformer's Circle of Fellowship [TCF], an exclusive membership for engineers involved in creating new worlds. The Fist symbol on the other engineer's sleeve represents the Conqueror, Her Majesty Rheyn Destoiya.

Ezraki, Chiasmii Homeworld

An Ezraki legend says that a jealous god placed a curse upon two lovers, San (red/female), and Pter (gold/male), so that they could never touch one another. According to the story, the other gods took pity on them, and raised them into the sky as moons.

There, they race across the sky side by side, only touching when a total eclipse occurs. The inhabitants refer to this as Sanpterdroit, and it is a world-wide celebration.

Click planet and tour images to open full-sized in another window.

Ezraki, Chiasmii Homeworld

The two moons always rise and set at the same time, and appear to be the same size in the sky. However, the gold moon, Pter, is larger than the red moon, San, and only seems the same size because San is closer to the planet.

Inhabitants are called Chiasmii. They are, without exception, blond and fair-skinned. Truly androgynous, they are mother to one child and father to the next, favoring first one gender and then the other, occurring in two phases named after their moons, San and Pter. About twenty percent of the population consists of twins. With their race's uniformly blond appearance, first time visitors often have difficulty telling inhabitants apart.

From 4648 to 4653 tradestandard, the Chiasmii were the subjects of genetic manipulation in a program that came to be known as the Sabbath Experiment. A select group were actually impregnated with their own eggs/sperm and the resultant fetus altered by adding additional DNA. Speculation abounds regarding the children born during this time. Protestors started a fire which destroyed the complex utterly. No records survived.

Ezraki, Chiasmii Homeworld

The Chiasmii's dual genders have far-reaching consequences in their society (i. e., workplaces, and hours geared first to child care rather than the convenience of business). Their immune systems prevent every disease from the common cold to cancer, resulting in medicine focusing on injury-rehabilitation, genetics, and natural cures such as herbs, massage, and chiropractic. They invented Empas-assisted natural childbirth, during which a doula links the mother and fetus.

Before the Conqueror arrived in 4648 tradestandard, their society was non-violent, which they attributed to the fact that all could feel a victim's pain. Their gift of Sympas enables them to feel the pleasure or pain of others; and Empas reflects their own. Far from granting them immunity from harm, those attributes ensured their slavery.

They are commonly called Androgs.

Tarth City and the Nizamrak Building - found in multiple books
The icons on the right (partly covering the Nizamrak Building) show all the series in which this building plays a part.

I named the Nizamrak Building after my friend and mentor, the late author Barbara Karmazin. Nizamrak is Karmazin backward. BK, as she was affectionately known, loved the idea of having a site named after her. When my son Jamin created a print of the building, she was delighted.

It was always in my mind that the letters in Nizamrak were an acrostic, but I didn't know what they represented. When I wrote A Stolen Heart, I learned the meaning. A group of toddlers in a day care had been killed in "friendly fire" and Luc ( or "Cyr" as he was known in that life) was responsible. He never got over finding their tiny bodies, nor did he forgive himself. How could such a thing happen? You'll have to read A Stolen Heart to find out, but this incident had far reaching consequences and changed the course of many lives. The children's names were Nazeeya, Ida, Zahir, Addison, Makenna, Rayner, Amris, and Keagan. This is not the only thing to bear some aspect of their names, and because their deaths occurred over twelve thousand years ago, there is no telling how many ways the names have been used. But no matter what Luc does to honor them, he cannot free himself of the guilt he feels.

Locations inside the Nizamrak

    • Parking, Transportation, Tube Train - Underground (fifteen floors)
    • Bank of Tarth - Suite 100 (ground) - 800
    • Non-Lucsondis-owned businesses, medical facilities, storage, employee housing, daycare, etc. - Suite 900-4000
    • For Women Only - Suite 4100 - 5000
    • Lucsondis Entertainment - Suite 5100 - 6000
    • idBot - Suite 6100 - 7000
    • CyberEgo - Suite 7100 - 8000
    • Lucsondis Enterprises - Suite 19100 - 19900
    • Unoccupied (on purpose) - Suite 20000
    • Penthouse "The Loft" - Suite 20100 - 20300

Tradestandard labor laws require employers to provide living quarters to employees near the place where they work. Exceptions are available (for example, in Her Crystal Clear Truth, Shohn Lexius lives elsewhere yet has her office in the Nizamrak Building. Luc Saint-Cyr's penthouse is the Building's top three floors.

The two-hundredth floor (Suite 20000) is vacant by design to provide privacy and security for the Loft. The Loft (Luc Saint-Cyr's penthouse) supports a full parking deck for his fleet of cars, and an entertainment facility. The penthouse occupies the top three floors. Private living and sleeping quarters take up most of the top floor, and provide space for the rooftop pool. The rooftop also has weather and privacy shielding.

Because of its design and height, the Nizamrak Building is equipped with anti-terrorism devices and the highest security idBot can provide. Repulsor technology prevents aircraft from approaching, eliminating the need for traditional blinking lights required on tall buildings. Failsafes turn on the lights in case of power failures or emergencies.

Discrete express elevators run to the penthouse, including one solely for vehicles and delivery. A separate, stacked elevator system transports passengers rapidly to various sections of the building. An industrial elevator system handles delivery. Private parking for those qualified is housed underground. The Tube (the Tarth City tube train) makes scheduled stops. The Nizamrak Building is one of the few tall buildings into which the tube is not permitted to run. All transportation (except Luc Saint-Cyr's private fleet) is underground. This gives the black-glass fronted building a sleek appearance. It is wider at the base than at the top.

More information is available in the Tarthian Empire Companion.

Tarth, All Roads Lead Home

Tarth, the empire's capitol, is a glittering jewel in space. Its networks of shields create harmonics of varied frequencies. These alter the wavelengths of color, turning the rich forests, rivers, and cities into streams of bright greens, vibrant golds, and shining silver. Once inside the external shields around the planet, the appearance returns to normal blues, greens, and browns.

Tarth, All Roads Lead Home

Tarth without shielding(Planet shown without shielding)

Security is high on Tarth, and ships entering the guarded space are subject to boarding and destruction without proper passcodes.

Tarth City (image below, showing a view of the Nizamrak Building) numbers 40 million people divided into 153 districts averaging 260,000 residents each. A twelve-block-wide park bisects the entire city, providing greenspace and recreation. The transportation system is the most advanced in the empire, and hustles commuters on round-the-clock shifts throughout the city. Ground traffic is permitted only with special license and is granted only for specified times of the day.

Conqueror's Palace on Tarth

The Conqueror's Palace on Tarth is hewn from white marble imported from Sanity III. Since the planet was taken apart and used for terraforming resource material, the marble is irreplaceable. Note the size of the guards in comparison to the wall. The palace is visible from high orbit and dominates the city skyline. Only a handful of buildings are taller, including the Nizamrak Building.

For size, note the guards in the foreground.

As an example of the city's advanced transportation and public event capabilities, Destine Pietan Stadium can hold up to 65,000 people, and has a ticketing, entry and egress system which accommodates up to three shows daily. There are never lines, waiting, or crushing crowds. Tarth City is the showcase of the empire.
