Kivahndo-Passat, Unified Border World

Natives on one side of the world called their planet Kivahndo. The other side called it Passat. Neither group knew the other existed.

In 4647 tradestandard, when the Conqueror absorbed the planet into the Tarthian Empire and brought the two hemispheres of people together, fierce fighting broke out between them.

Kivahndo-Passat, Unified Border World

Each group believed the other had lied about their origins on the planet. Neither had any written or oral history mentioning the others, yet genetically, the groups were identical. How their world managed to evolve without leaving a history as to their shared background is a mystery.

Deepening the curiosity is the fact that their languages are based on Etymis, the tradestandard language of the empire.

Because Kivahndo-Passat is located so near the edge of the galaxy, its night sky is almost devoid of stars during some seasons and completely filled with them during others.

Kelthia, home of the Thieves' Guild

The planet Kelthia is one of the original worlds of the Tarthian Empire. Planetary shielding used in the empire has the effect of making some planets appear green. This is caused by HFO [harmonic frequency overlay], a simplistic way of saying the shields bend light. Inside the atomosphere, color variations are invisible to the human eye but Tyrans perceive it as shifting sky-colors or aurora borealis.

Kelthia, home of the Thieves' Guild

Kelthia holds the distinction of being the wealthiest world in the Empire, Tarth only slightly behind. This is due in part to Kelthia's natural resources, but a large portion is earned through a most unusual source.

The Thieves' Guild has existed for centuries, and is a union-operated business. There are forty-six levels, each attainable only by rigorous testing. Kelthian law protects members of the union by granting immunity from prosecution for thieves operating under valid contracts. Thieves from this union are in demand on all worlds in the empire, and are especially useful in corporate environments. Pilfered trade secrets, gained under the auspices of a valid thief-contract, account for nearly twenty percent of the gross income for the planet.

Kelthian Thieves' Guild, Arcane Entrance

Kelthia, Thieves' Guild - Arcane Entrance

Members of the union pay taxes on only the first ten percent of their earnings, hence the common slang term for getting away with something, "He pays a thief's taxes".

Prostitution is legal throughout the empire, but it is lauded here, and Kelthian sex workers are often the epitome of beauty. Kelthia is also known for the manufacture of fine liquor, jewelry, and high fashion.

Kelthian natives are almost all dark-skinned, with jet-black, tightly curled hair and brown eyes. Only a small percentage have fair coloring.

One of the best-known Kelthians in the empire is Luc Saint-Cyr, aka "the Man," or the Harbinger, so-called for his ability to spot trends and influence. At one time he served as the Grand Master of the Thieves' Guild, but retired and turned his hand to business on Tarth. He is the wealthiest man in the empire, and is considered second in influence only to Empress Rheyn Destoiya, the Conqueror. The phrase "a harbinger of wealth" refers to earning power, and is a direct reference to him.

The Thieves' Guild Council is considering opening for the first time to non-humans such as the Kin, Tyran, and Chiasmii, this will undoubtedly be the subject of much debate.

A skeleton key has always been the symbol of the guild. When wearing their cloaks (earned at Level Fifteen) thieves are able to enter through the wall bearing the giant key symbol. The cloak enables disruption of a special field which then allows its wearer to bypass what seems like solid marble. The cloak is activated by the wearer's DNA, thereby preventing its use by anyone other than the true owner. It has many other features.

Felidae, Kin Homeworld

After the arrival of the Conqueror, Rheyn Destoiya in Tradestandard 4625, males left the planet by the thousands, seeking jobs and adventure. The Praetorian Guard is now almost entirely made up of Kin males, and is an elite squad assembled to enforce the Conqueror's will. They are fierce warriors and can rip apart the enemy with their bare hands -- or their teeth.

Felidae, Kin Homeworld

Of the sixteen clans on Felidae, the Ruh clan owns more land than any of the other three combined. The Ruh Rainforest is primitive and almost completely unexplored. It occupies nearly one-sixth of the planet.

A miniscule portion is being harvested for medical research by the Chiasmii, with full permission of the Ruh clan. Other clans are not pleased with this, and skirmishes between bordering clans have increased within the last few years.

The Kin population is feline in appearance. They have cat-like irises, sharp teeth, and long incisors (fangs). Deadly claws hide beneath human-looking nails. They have downy furskin all over their bodies, with a texture like velvet, or a plush toy.

Males have few if any rights, and are kept in seclusion once married. Due to dwindling birth rates, it is required for warrior females to have more than one mate. Female breeders may be added to the family if no children are born within a few years. The Pride Council oversees marriage contracts and breeding arrangements.

A typical "breeder house" is usually located away from the main dwelling. Horns are placed on the roof of the main house are to ward off evil spirits, as is any gate before the front door. The Kin are largely a rural, feudal society with loyalties to clan leaders called tzesars.

Emaille, Hunter's Paradise

Natives pronounce the planet's name as Eh-MAH-lee, and the surest way to give away tourist status is to call it EE-mail.

Emaille was discovered in 4654 tradestandard and immediately became the premier spot for trade in seafood. The world boasted flowing rivers stocked with all varieties of fish, game in the lush forests, and grains growing wild. Tarthian immigration began within the year.

Emaille, Hunter's Paradise

The seas on Emaille are so deep they are almost black, and the natives have a natural fear of it. Tourists however, enjoy boating, fishing, snorkeling, and limited diving. Locals will not travel out of sight of land.

The planet imports technology and exports fish and seafood.

Big game hunters on Emaille have a saying: "No scars, no experience." The native Fasciatus, a massive, horned creature with tiny eyes, big claws, and a huge mouth is hunted for food, leather, and fur. Locals use its claws as digging implements and to hollow out small logs to use as canoes. A swipe from its paws or claws is deadly, but it does not hunt humans by nature. It subsists on smaller animals and seems to delight in catching and consuming ants and termites.

Dellyn, Former Pirate Haven

Colonizing any world is a difficult thing, but a border world holds special challenges.

Dellyn lies between the edge of the Tarthian Empire and a region of space called "The Colonies of Man." Inside the Colonies are a few separatist planets such as Blythe, Tel Gojor, Coty, Independence, Fiyez, and Affiyar. Tanath, Kanadar and Bombyx are three such worlds ruled by "Warmakers," a loosely unified group of pirates. There are other large clusters of worlds united under various rulers.

Dellyn, Former Pirate Haven

The collective known as the Colonies of Man stretches from the border of the Tarthian Empire all the way to the Disputed Borderlands near the Terran Crescent. Pirate raids are less frequent the closer one gets to the Crescent, but on the Tarthian Empire side of the colonies, pirates once operated with seeming impunity.

Most vicious of all pirates are the slavers of the Sargassan Detaat. They attack in lightning quick Skinraider ships equipped with high tech "nets" capable of scooping up human beings.

The slaves taken by them are sold as far away as Seamrog, a border world near the Worlds of Wings, on the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Dellyn, Former Pirate Haven

The Detaat slavers' frequent attacks on Dellyn left the inhabitants fearful of the open sky. The planet was discovered by the Droid Discovery Force of Her Majesty Rheyn Destoiya in 4667 tradestandard. Dellyn is now being settled and colonized by reassigned Tarthian citizens in order to bring a profit from the planet's previously untapped natural resources. Piracy in the Tarthian Empire is punishable by death. Once convicted, there is no process of appeal for a pirate.

Most water on Dellyn is frozen three quarters of the year. The world once considered an ice planet used as a haven by pirates is now protected by the mighty Imperial Armada.

Detiza, Gates of Life

Archaeological digs on Detiza and several other barren worlds in the Tarthian Empire -- and all the non-human ones (Tyris, Felidae, and Ezraki) -- uncovered the ruins of towering arches. (See picture below) Natives on inhabited worlds all called them the Gates of Life.

Click planet and tour images to open full-sized in another window.

Detiza, Gates of Life

It is speculated the "Gates" originated as monitoring devices for tracking the progress of genetic mutations, but no true use is known. Rituals of "passing through the Gates" after birth are common to Tyrans, Chiasmii, and Kin alike.
All three worlds have legends that link the Gates to a god who descends from the sky in a burning chariot. The Tyran called him Sandargen, the Chiasmii Arjensa, and the Kin Adel Jansaara.

When translated to Etymis, the tradestandard language of the empire, all these names mean Saint of Silver. A detailed description of this saint's arrival suggests a spacecraft. According to the legends, he was the size of a god, and had white hair. He always wore silver, and demanded a sacrifice of two virgins, male and female, which he took back to the sky with him.

Detiza has no sentient life, but natives on other worlds call this type or arch the "Gates of Life"

For an idea of the true size of the Gates, note the bottom left corner of the drawing.

Those who did not please this "Saint" or had failed in worshiping at the Gates were punished severely, and some were killed. When generations passed without the Saint of Silver's return, the inhabitants destroyed the Gates.

Gates were also found on the planets Ohy and Sanity IV but there is no evidence that intelligent life ever existed on either of those worlds.
What happened to the inhabitants is a mystery that is likely never to be solved.
